Following a year of eager expectation, Alan Ritchson is finally back as Jack Reacher in Prime Video's Reacher Season 3. Often recognized as a faithful adaptation to Lee Child's book series, the newly released chapter is based on Persuader, the seventh book in which the ex-military police officer joins forces with the DEA.

The first three episodes are already out, and fans cannot wait for the next as Alan Ritchson claimed "I think this will be the fans’ favorite season for sure, at least among the first three [season] and maybe for a long time." The actor teased unavoidable action sequences and his rivalry with Oliver Richters aka The Dutch Giant's villain has intensified the excitement.

While Reacher Season 3 brought back the titular characters, fans are also curious about Malcolm Goodwin’s Oscar Finlay. The Chief of Detectives in the Margrave Police Department played a key role in Season 1 and even appeared in some parts of the second chapter.

However, Oscar Finlay won't appear in Reacher Season 3 and this has been confirmed by the actor himself. While Malcolm Goodwin spoke highly about the show and its narrative, he hasn't reprised his role.

While long-time fans of Reacher are already familiar with Malcolm Goodwin’s Oscar Finlay, some might need a refresher. As mentioned above, Goodwin's character was introduced in the very first episode of the thriller, in which a mysterious murder case puts him face-to-face with Jack.

Being the lead investigator in the small Georgia town, Oscar suspected Jack of the crime. However, he eventually became one of Jack's most trusted allies as they joined forces to unravel a deep corruption within Margrave.

Unlike Jack, who majorly relies on brute force, Oscar Finlay is a sharp and methodical detective who solves cases with logic. His old-school detective work made him an adored character as fans loved his partnership with Jack Reacher.

Oscar was given a satisfying character arc in Reacher Season 1, but the actor episode his role for a cameo in Season 2. Following the surprise, fans wonder if the detective will show up for the latest season.

While Malcolm Goodwin's character was highly praised, his story has already been neatly wrapped up. Goodwin made it very clear that he won't be reprising his role for Reacher Season 3 in his interview with Collider saying:

"Well, I'm not in Season 3, but I tell you what, it's Nick Santoro who's a good friend of mine and the creator of this show. And there's Alan."

He continued:

"I love Alan, so I would say expect more action, more adventure, more great storytelling, and a lot of amazing action."

One of the major reasons why Oscar will be absent from Reacher Season 3 is due to Jack's lone-wolf nature. As explained by Showrunner Nick Santora, the TV series is about a man who operates alone. Santora said:

"Reacher is not a character who runs around with an entourage. He’s a lone wolf, so you have to stay true to that."

Additionally, Oscar Finlay's story feels complete as he was able to crack the conspiracy in Season 1 in Margrave and eventually returned to Boston. He only worked with Jack due to their shared goal in the town, and besides that, Oscar does not have a longstanding history with the main character in Lee Child's books.
