The latest episode of Reacher Season 3 featured a major character death that might impact Reacher(Alan Ritchson), Susan Duffy(Sonya Cassidy), and the team in the future.
The tragic death of DEA Agent and Duffy’s team member, Steven Eliot (Daniel David Stewart) was one of the highlights of Episode 5, titled Smackdown. Eliot’s Death was also tragic because he wasn’t killed in combat but while helping light up a cigarette for someone else.
Although he wasn’t the only one dying in the episode, he was arguably the most impactful one, as it strengthened Duffy’s determination to find her other subordinate, Teresa Daniels.
More on this in our story.
A small act of sympathy caused Agent Steven Eliot's life

Reacher Season 3, Episode 5’s most significant revelation was the team discovering that Quinn is involved in a weapon smuggling racket, not drugs.
Other than cracking one of the most important revelations, the team had to deal with a tragic situation. Duffy and her fellow agents, Steven Eliot and Guillermo Villanueva ( Roberto Montesinos), had captured Beck’s son, Richard’s bodyguard, John Cooper, to interrogate and find some valuable information to solve the disappearance of Teresa Daniels. However, Cooper doesn’t provide any significant information but shows his ruthless side by killing Agent Eliot.
After being tied to a chair, Cooper pestered Eliot for a cigarette, but he refused to give him one. While annoying the rookie agent, he was also trying to cut himself loose of the bounds.
In episode 5, Eliot finally gives in to his request and goes against the rules. However, he is unaware that Cooper has filled his mouth with the rubbing alcohol that he used to treat Cooper’s wounds. As Eliot goes to light up Cooper’s cigarette, he spits the alcohol on the flame of the lighter, burning Eliot’s face and then attacking him by repeatedly stomping on his head.
The small action of helping out someone horrendously took Eliot’s life.
Susan Duffy found Eliot’s body, and Guillermo shot Cooper while he was running back to Beck and avenged his teammate’s death, but it didn’t take away the tragic impact that left Duffy, who was always seen being dismissive of Eliot after he botched the previous investigation on Zachary Beck.
More about Reacher Season 3
The recent death put Jack and Duffy in a similar situation as we had seen in a flashback scene in episode 4, when Jack lost his subordinate due to Quinn. They both are now carrying the guilt of the deaths of their subordinates, which will fuel their mission to find Teresa and make sure she is alive.
Other than Eliot, another character whose death might have impacted Reacher in episode 5 was the French maid, Annette, who was found to be an undercover ATF Agent. Reacher tried to save her life under the disguise of interrogating her further, but she was eventually killed by Paullie.
With tragic and shocking losses and only three episodes remaining, Reacher Season 3 might be gearing up for high-octane action scenes and epic showdowns.
Reacher Season 3 is available on Amazon Prime Video.
