Reacher Season 3: Sonya Cassidy was 'nervous' to play Susan Duffy, here's why

Sonya Cassidy, known for her diverse acting skills, has opened up about her experience playing DEA agent Susan Duffy in Reacher Season 3. While she was excited to join the cast, she also admitted feeling nervous about taking on the role, mainly because of the Boston accent she had to master.

Cassidy, a British actress, had to transform herself into a tough DEA agent from Boston. This was no easy task, as she had to adopt a completely different way of speaking and thinking.

"I've always loved the challenge of accents," she shared.

"I find them fascinating. It's so much more than sounds, it's a whole psychology and culture and way of being, and I think the more regional accents we hear, the better."

"But I was nervous taking this one on! I've done a lot of American in my time, but Boston was always going to be a challenge."

How Cassidy prepared for the role

Instead of backing away from the challenge, Cassidy dedicated herself to mastering the Boston accent. She started preparing long before filming even began.

"For the audition, I just watched a lot of films set in Boston," she said.

By studying the speech patterns and mannerisms of real people from the area, she was able to bring authenticity to her role.

Susan Duffy is a determined DEA agent who teams up with Jack Reacher (played by Alan Ritchson) to take down a dangerous crime syndicate. She gets involved in the case after one of her colleagues mysteriously disappears.

Cassidy describes Duffy as someone who shares similarities with Reacher.

"[Duffy] is someone who's quite similar to Reacher in many ways," she explained.

"This show really hits the ground running. Duffy is already in way up to her neck. So she's kind of sprinting ahead, trying to put out a load of fires."

Her character is tough, resourceful, and unafraid to face danger, qualities that make her a great partner for Reacher.

Taking on the role of Susan Duffy was a big challenge for Sonya Cassidy, especially when it came to nailing the Boston accent. However, she put in the work, studied hard, and brought the character to life.

Fans of Reacher Season 3 can look forward to seeing her in action alongside Jack Reacher as they take on some serious threats.
