Reacher Season 3 is about Jack Reacher taking down his worst enemy, Quinn. In this season, he has to, probably, use more of his brains than brawn. Simply because he is on an undercover mission. One wrong step and he's out.

However, despite that, Reacher has not been the most discreet or careful when it comes to covering up all his tracks. Halfway into the season and he has already taken out three of Beck's men, including Angel Doll.

In the latest episode, we see him heading to where Quinn has located Angel Doll's laptop and sent his men to get it. Will he be able to clean up that mess? Only time will tell.

Reacher Season 3 also shows us a softer side of Reacher. He meets Kohl and starts enjoying her company. He also gives her certain advice that at times, fails to follow.

Here's one such instance when Reacher violates his code. Read on to know more.

Reacher Season 3: "In an investigation, assumptions kill"

Reacher Season 3 Episode 4 takes us back to Reacher's military days. In one of the cases, he is assigned to work with Sergeant First Class Dominique Kohl. They quickly become friends and work more like colleagues than a mentor and mentee. Reacher doesn't have to teach her a lot as she is already sharp, and Reacher admires her a lot for that.

Well now, Reacher has a set of ironclad rules, and he sticks to them like glue. But what happens when he breaks one? In Episode 4, he did something completely out of character. He assumes. And it comes back to bite him later.

From the start, the Prime Video series has shown that Reacher plays by his rulebook. One of his golden rules is:

“In an investigation, assumptions kill.”

But season 3 takes us back to his old days and shows us exactly where this rule arrived. Turns out it wasn’t something Reacher came up with himself. He learned it from someone who shaped him. And ironically, it’s this very rule that he forgets when dealing with Quinn.

Reacher and Garber

Reacher follows his rules religiously. Well, until he doesn’t. Flashbacks in episode 4 reveal a crucial moment: the first time Reacher captures Quinn. Quinn, being the trickster he is, tries to spin a wild story, claiming that Kohl was working with him.

Reacher doesn’t buy it, but he doesn’t dismiss it either. Instead, he tests Quinn with a simple question, what’s Kohl’s first name? When Quinn fumbles, the lie falls apart.

Everything seems fine until it isn’t. Because after pulling the trigger and putting a bullet in Quinn’s head, Reacher assumes he’s dead. And that, folks, is where it all goes wrong.

Later, he learns the hard way that Quinn survived. Somehow, the bullet lodged in his skull instead of hitting the brain. This proves the rule right in the worst way possible.

Reacher's senior officer Garber had taught him that rule.

Garber is the guy who shaped Reacher’s approach to everything. Throughout Episode 4, we see how deep this influence runs. When Reacher is distracted after Kohl’s abduction, Garber reminds him:

“Never get distracted from the job at hand”

This pulls him back into focus.

In Reacher season 3, we get a glimpse of him being wrong. The whole Quinn situation shows that Reacher’s strict rules exist for a reason. And when he strays from them, the consequences can be deadly.
