Reacher Season 3 has been shaping up to be pretty intriguing till now. The three episodes show us how Reacher has, this time, graciously agreed to go undercover on a daring mission that involves the "single worst person" he has ever known.
Zachary Beck is a wealthy businessman who claims that his organization is up to no mischief and it's legitimate. But Susan Duffy, the DEA agent, has reasons to believe otherwise. She is also desperate to find, Teresa, her informant, who is currently missing.
But to infiltrate Beck's organization isn't a game for the faint-hearted. It involves a deadly game of Russian roulette, which Reacher, using his wits, passed with flying colors. Yet, gaining Beck's loyalty doesn't come easy.
Reacher needs to get inside the close circle of Beck. And for that, there has to be an opening in that circle. So what does Reacher do? He comes up with a master plan that efficiently removes Beck's number two, Duke, from the organization. Or rather, from the face of the earth.
Read on to know what exactly Reacher did to eliminate Duke and take his place as Zachary Beck's number two.
Reacher Season 3: Reacher gathers intel
Once Reacher gets into Beck's organization, he learns that it's pretty secretive. Only the people in the inner circle know what goes on. So, he realizes there's no use in him being on the sidelines, or just protecting Beck's son. He has to prove himself valuable and of use to Beck.
When he is asked to accompany Angel Doll to the impound lot, he learns that Beck isn't the one who is calling the shots. There is someone else playing boss. Reacher has serious reasons to believe it could be Quinn, "the single worst person" he has ever known.
Soon Angel Doll puts two and two together and realizes that Reacher is not who he claims to be. But before he can share this information with his business buddies, Reacher crushes his head on a desk and folds (read: breaks) him to fit his lifeless body under a table. Poor Doll, though smart enough to find out the truth before anyone else, should have probably just kept quiet.
However, Reacher does a messy job with it and has to clean up before anyone finds a trail of blood leading to Doll's body. So, he contacts Duffy and both go to the warehouse to do some cleaning.
Luck isn't always on Reacher's side this season. Just when they are cleaning, two of Beck's drivers arrive and Reacher is forced to take them down too. Now, with three bodies to hide, Duffy and Reacher need to find containers. Thereafter, they dump the bodies in two containers.
Reacher sets the plan in motion
The next morning, Reacher walks into a worried Beck. There's a big shipment coming in and their two drivers haven't turned up for work. Reacher sees the opportunity and offers to help. He says,
"Just let me do it. I can do the work of two of your men, and I'm already on payroll."
Beck responds,
"No, you're on the payroll to do what I tell you to do. And today, you're gonna take Richie into town."
Reacher, however, on the drive to the town, tries his best to get Beck's son Richard to spill a few secrets. He learns that Beck's boss' name is Julius McCabe. But that's not enough information. He needs more.
He tells Duffy on a phone call from the washroom of a store that he has to "put" himself in the inner circle. When Duffy asks how is he planning on doing that, he says,
"By getting promoted to Beck's number two. But I can't do that unless the job's opening. I got to figure some way to get rid of Duke."
Then he tells Duffy to open Doll's laptop and use his email to bring Duke and Beck to an "off the grid" empty house. DEA agent Duffy has just the right place for it.
Beck was desperate to know which group was behind his son's kidnapping so he was trying to locate the pickup van's owner. Reacher uses Beck's desperation and Doll's laptop to his advantage.
Back home, Reacher is asked to accompany Beck and Duke to the location they got from Doll's email. Beck believes he has found the group responsible for his son's kidnapping. So, the three set out to Hartford.
But not before Reacher runs back to the house, in the pretense of using the washroom, to grab Angel Doll's gun. You'll find out why.
Shootout, rats, and Reacher
Cut to the Hartford house. Duke is convinced the house is empty but Reacher tells him he is going in. Duke follows. They enter the house and Duke feels a gun on the back of his head. It's Reacher.
He asks Duke about Teresa. That's when he realizes Reacher is undercover. Took him long enough. He says:
"You think you're gonna flip me? McCabe's a stone-cold killer. I cross him, I'm dead. Cross you, you're a cop. The worst you can do is arrest me, so I'm not saying sh*t. You played your last card, dumb*ss."
But what he didn't know was that those were his last words. Reacher shoots him in the head and then starts shooting the entire house to make it look like a shootout.
He then proceeds to hit his own head for a more convincing show. He then heads to the kitchen, turns the gas on, puts a few explosive items in the microwave, and rushes out of the house. A huge blast follows him.
When he meets Beck back in the car, as they hurriedly escape the scene, he tells him that they were ambushed and it involved a hand grenade. Duke couldn't survive because he couldn't find cover.
He also hands Beck a gun that he says belonged to one of those men who attacked them. Beck immediately recognizes the gun, saying he had given it to Angel Doll. Beck is convinced that the group who attacked them and kidnapped his son had bought off Angel, who ratted Beck out.
He gives the gun to Reacher and asks if there are any other "rats" that he needs to worry about. Reacher takes this opportunity to tell him that the two drivers who were missing in action were there too. Beck then tells Reacher:
"Something tells me you're about to be my new number two."
A smirk on Reacher's face and, scene!
