Prime Video's Reacher Season 3 has been a rollercoaster with huge deviations from its source material — author Lee Child's bestseller, Persuader. With the finale looming, Episode 7 delivers on its most important plot point: The long-awaited on-screen introduction of Teresa Daniel, the informant-turned-hostage at the center of the story. However, the changes in character dynamics remain to be seen.
While Reacher's (Alan Ritchson) cover has been blown and Susan Duffy (Sonya Cassidy) is under pressure to catch up, the pair must use their skills and speed to extract Teresa before Xavier Quinn (Brian Tee) gets to seal his lucrative arms sale.
Frances Neagley (Maria Sten) tracks down a lethal thread in Chicago as she uncovers vital information on Quinn's darker past. Teresa appears in the final act of the episode, chained to a dirty cellar floor, as Quinn, in an eerie exhibition of sadism, shoots heroin in her veins.
Teresa, played by Storm Steenson, doesn't even receive a line in her introduction scene — a dissonant move for a character so significant. All the same, her situation instigates Reacher's constant search for righteousness — or, appeals to his way of thinking:
“I don’t want justice. I want vengeance.”
Reacher and Duffy’s hunt for Teresa
Episode 7, titled L.A. Story, begins with Reacher and Duffy searching for Teresa's grandmother in Boston, in the hopes of getting a lead. Their call is interrupted by a playful repartee when the old woman senses their obvious chemistry.
After giving them a picture of Teresa, she quips:
“I know a thing or two about a thing or two.”
Reacher's stake in the case is not pursuing Quinn for revenge, but to rescue someone who is caught in the middle of a corrupt system. Their case leads them to Los Angeles, where Duffy shares surveillance video of West Coast kingpin Darien Prado. The footage, which had been deemed inadmissible because a warrant was messed up, becomes a key connection.
There's more on agenda that just business, though — after some flirtation (including a perfectly timed 'that's what she said' joke by Duffy), they end up in bed. The episode follows Reacher's pattern of coupling its giant hero with a love interest.
Either way, the couple's trip to Prado is worth it when they get him to order fake guns from Zachary Beck (Anthony Michael Hall), leading up to the finale.
Neagley’s discovery changes the game
While Reacher and Duffy work on one front, Neagley shows why she's getting her own spin-off, by taking on an old Quinn associate, Costopoulos, in Chicago. The meeting is quintessential Neagley — quick, brutal, and effective.
Costopoulos is quick to share vital information: Julius McCabe and Xavier Quinn are the same person, and Quinn's business is entirely based on lies and violence. This discovery not only explains Quinn's motives but also solidifies him as one of the series' most sinister villains.
Meanwhile, back in Maine, Beck encounters Neagley assuming she is there on behalf of Prado, when she surprises him with the news that she is actually assisting the lead. Her offer is straightforward: Beck's only means of escape here is to assist them in eliminating Quinn. As the episode wraps up, Neagley tracks a group of foreign purchasers off to a private airfield at Kennebunkport.
But as he and the ATF prepare for what they think is a raid on Quinn's transaction, he discovers too late — it's a trap. With one episode remaining, the show lays the groundwork for a finale where justice and revenge converge.
Reacher Season 3 finale premieres next Friday on Prime Video.
