Reacher Season 3 Episode 5, titled Smackdown, is already breaking the internet with all those unexpected deaths, and Xavier Quinn (a name that has been in the spotlight since Episode 1) is turning out to be the most hated antagonist so far. A disturbing incident from Reacher's past that involves ex-military intelligence colonel Quinn was the main focus of Episode 4 titled Dominique.
We learn that Reacher is not just randomly behind a man who is infamous for his criminal record. But, the roots of hatred are deep inside his heart and are the result of a personal loss (the death of Dominique Kohl at the hands of Quinn, a young and bright officer who served under Reacher back in the day).
However, the ending of Reacher Season 3 Episode 5 has revealed that Xavier Quinn is involved in an international gun smuggling racket where his major suppliers are druglords from foreign lands. Zachary Beck is the frontman who does the dirty work for him and the world knows him as a wealthy and influential rug merchant.
Xavier Quinn's illegal involvement with Zachary Beck finally comes to light in Reacher Season 3 Episode 5
The big revelation about Xavier Quinn's illegal business deals comes in Reacher Season 3 Episode 5. After taking care of all the dead bodies of Beck's servant (posing as an undercover agent for the ATF) and Quinn's men (who died in the ambush), Reacher comes back to his room to spend some time alone.
However, Richard Beck appears at the scene and tries to sympathize with Reacher for his situation, given the fact that Reacher always had his back. Soon after, we see Reacher dialing Susan Duffy's number using his secret cell phone, and their conversation spills the beans about what goes on behind Zachary's clean rug business.
It eventually comes to light that Zachary Beck is the frontman of Quinn's illegal trade in guns with international druglords like Darien Prado (whose mention we get in Episode 1 from Susan and Villanueva's case files). Quinn is not the one dealing in drugs directly but supplying cartels with ammunition.
Reacher also reveals to Susan over the call that the mechanics he saw earlier at Beck's house were not the ones taking care of broken cars or trucks. As said by Reacher, they rather make sure that:
"The weapons are in perfect working order before selling them."
Now, Susan eventually realizes why she:
"Found that industrial lubricant company on Angel Doll's laptop."
Both Reacher and Susan eventually get clarity that the oil is purchased by Zachary Beck in large amounts and the mechanics make sure that all the weapons are properly greased up before being sold. To quote Susan Duffy further:
"It's white-glove service when you buy from Quinn."
The entire trade is made to look legitimate with no stones left unturned and all things in place. Zachary runs his rug business and assists Quinn with his international gun-racket operations.
In one of the earlier episodes, we saw how a friend police officer of Susan Duffy brought sniffer dogs to check Beck's transporting truck. But they could not find anything as the consignment was not carrying any drugs but guns - meant to be sold to foreign cartels, druglords and other highly influential individuals.
