Netflix's upcoming drama series, Ransom Canyon, is based on the book series by Jodi Thomas and tells a Western tale of love and loss.
Created and written by April Blair, the show is set in the titular town of Texas Hill Country and tells the story of the last three remaining ranching families, who try to save their lands and their old way of living.
Blair is best known for Wednesday, the Gossip Girl reboot and Christmas Caper and also serves as an executive producer on the show.

What is the release date of Ransom Canyon?
Ransom Canyon will debut on Netflix on April 17, 2025. The series will have a total of 10, 60-minute episodes, which will be available to stream on the same day, to give viewers a binge-watching experience. The first two of the ten episodes are directed by Ozark's Amanda Marsalis.
In an interview with Netflix's Tudum, creator April Blair opens up about the show:
“At its core, Ransom Canyon isn’t just a town. It’s an idea. It’s the painful longing for your first love. It’s the burning desire to protect your family. It’s cowboys and lovers, grifters and thieves. Lust, deceit, heartache, home … Ransom has it all''
She added:
“I think people are going to fall in love with this little slice of Texas and the dramas and romances that we created there.”
What is the plot of Ransom Canyon?
The story is set in the titular town of Texas, where the three remaining ranching families are trying hard to sustain the business and protect their plans from external forces.
The protagonist, Staten, is sobering up after a loss and is out for vengeance when he meets a longtime family friend, Quinn, who has just moved to Canyon from New York and might hold the key to his heart.
The show will explore Staten's struggles to save his land and how he works his way through his past demons, with Quinn by his side.
Cast and characters of Ransom Canyon
Ransom Canyon is headed by actor Josh Duhamel, who plays the role of Staten Kirkland, the owner of the Double K Ranch. He has to protect the external forces who are trying to take hold of his land. Duhamel has previously starred in Love, Simon, and Transformers.
He will star opposite Minka Kelly, who plays Quinn O’Grady—a former aspiring concert pianist whose dreams didn’t pan out in New York, leading her back to Texas for a fresh start. Kelly, known for her roles in Charlie's Angels and Euphoria, brings depth to the character.
