The Wheel of Time fans received answers to some of their most urgent questions straight from the showrunner, Rafe Judkins, himself in a recent Instagram AMA (Ask Me Anything). On April 17, 2025, Judkins answered questions on character development, casting, upcoming seasons, and the decisions made behind the scenes for the Amazon Prime series.

The AMA touched on a variety of subjects, such as the destiny of Siuan Sanche, Nynaeve's power block, and new Forsaken character plans. Judkins also discussed costume design, special effects, and his idea for the number of seasons.

Fans were curious to know about plot directions, character development, and if some of the storylines from the books would be translated to the screen. Judkins provided blunt, concise replies and named numerous cast and crew members.

Siuan Sanche and future appearances in The Wheel of Time

When questioned regarding the choice to kill Siuan, Rafe Judkins replied,

“Sophie and I discussed it a lot and felt this was the best time for the character to leave us. We have plans for who will take on her other main story as the books move forward. But also… it’s not the last time we will see Siuan if the show continues.”

On whether Siuan and Moiraine shared a warder-style bond, he furthered,

“That was the connection they shared over the oath rod in Season 1 Episode 6. A fantasy metaphor for feeling the death of your soulmate.”

Character Insights and Relationships

Judkins affirmed some plotline changes and hinted at others emerging in upcoming seasons. On Nynaeve, he said,

“Sure looked like it,” when asked if her power block was gone.

When asked why Liandrin had hesitated to kill Nynaeve, he replied,

“It’s hard to tell with Lili sometimes. She has certainly had chances…”

On a possible confrontation between Nynaeve and Moghedien, Judkins stated,

“Did you not see the way Moghy looked at her in 306 when she fought her compulsion weaves?? Something BIG is brewing between these two methinks…”

He also spoke of future plans for Alviarin, stating,

“You can tell by our hiring of @clare_ash that we have big plans for Alviarin.”

Casting and Cameos

Speaking on casting for upcoming characters, Rafe Judkins shared,

“@lizzobeeating (Lizzo)” as his dream cast for Graendal.

When asked if he would enjoy being a character on the show, he replied simply:

“STEVE.”

The Forsaken and their future appearances in The Wheel of Time

When asked if Semirhage or Graendal would be featured for the present season, Judkins replied,

“No. We can’t give too much too fast. Each Forsaken is delicious and we’ve barely gotten enough of Moghy, Sammael, and Rahvin.”

He confirmed Samael's demise with,

“Um. Yes,” when queried if the character is deceased.

The Wheel of Time series timeline and season plans

On the number of seasons of The Wheel of Time he wants to make, Judkins stated,

“I’ve always wanted to do eight seasons, 10 episodes each. But sometimes we don’t get what we want ha.”

When queried how close fans are to a The Wheel of Time Season 4 release, he replied,

“Only @jeffbezos @amazonmgmstudios can answer this. Ask them.”
To the question “Can you describe the next season in three words?” he said, “I hope so.”

Behind the scenes of The Wheel of Time

On episode time limits, Judkins stated,

“We have a time limit sadly so we push it to the absolute limit usually. I wanna make use of every second we’ve got.”

When queried about pushing episode lengths to almost an additional episode's amount of content, he said,

“Don’t tell everyone my secret! Wish I could squeeze one more out tho.”

Asked how the visual effects and weaves are made, he said,

“@andyescrase does such a great job of communicating with our actors, our directors, our writers, our movement coach Scarlett Mackmin, and most importantly with the books to bring the weaves to life.”

When asked about costume design and accessories, he said,

“@sharon_gilham_costume_design and @davinalamontmakeupdesigner killed it with that,” when discussing Elaida’s increasingly bold jewelry.

Additional Questions

Asked if Ogier might be Heroes of the Horn, he replied with a fingers-crossed emoji. When asked where one can obtain a hat like his, he responded,

“Well @majasimonsen one need only ask @sharon_gilham_costume_design.”

When asked about the character Charn from Season 3, Episode 4 of The Wheel of Time, he shared his thoughts,

“There’s something about Charn… it’s more in that nose and the just completely open and innocent smile Josha gave him. But Charn.”

He also verified that actor Dónal Finn ad-libbed the line

“Let’s go Tanchico!” saying, “Of course he did. That’s why we love @donal.finn.”

The Wheel of Time season 3 is now streaming on Prime Video.
