Pop Culture Jeopardy!, a new spinoff of the original series is ready to go live on Prime Video this December. Unlike the OG Jeopardy!, this will focus more on pop culture rather than academic subjects.
With over 41 successful seasons of the Emmy Award-winning show, the stage is all set to welcome and test the knowledge of pop-culture fans. Although the format of the show remains the same, there would be more changes that the fans might find exciting.
Hosted by Colin Jost, this fresh take on the beloved game of Q&A airs on Prime Video on December 4, 2024. The show will release three new episodes every Wednesday, making it binge-watch-worthy.
Ken Jennings, the host of Jeopardy! shared another piece of great news with the fans of the show. All seasons of the original show will also be available on streaming platforms for everyone in early 2025.
What to expect from Pop Culture Jeopardy!
Although Pop Culture Jeopardy! is a spinoff of the original show, it will be hitting the screens with a lot more twists and turns.
Even though the show will still have a question-answer format as Jeopardy!, this time no individuals will be facing those alone. Contestants will be playing the game in groups of three to win a cash prize of $300,000.
Also, the show will be focusing more on categories such as entertainment and media topics. This includes pop culture, movies, TV shows, music, stage sports, broadway productions, and much more. Questions will also span different decades, such as 1950s movies, 2020s hip hop, etc.
Pop Culture Jeopardy! aims to target a younger, broader audience while ensuring that it does not lose its existing fanbase.
Who will host Pop Culture Jeopardy!?
During a press release on July 31, Prime Video and Sony Pictures confirmed Colin hosting a new show Pop Culture Jeopardy!
Also, a post went live on the Pop Culture Jeopardy! official Instagram account about the upcoming spinoff of the show. They posted a picture of Colin Jost ready to host the new format. The caption of the post read,
"He’s the Jost-est with the most-est. #PopCultureJeopardy! is coming soon to @primevideo. #Jeopardy!"
Colin Jost is a comedian, a member of the SNL cast, and has hosted a few more shows in his career. Weekend Update, Denver Standup, and Saturday Night Live are a few shows one might recognize Colin from.
In fact, the president of game shows at Sony Pictures Television, Suzanne Prete reveals that it was Colin's humor they liked,
“Colin’s sharp wit and intelligence epitomize ‘Pop Culture Jeopardy!”
She adds,
“He’s smart and quick, like our contestants, and we know he’ll be able to keep up with them while making this new series his own. We could not be happier that he is joining us for this new journey.”
Lauren Anderson, SVP of brand and content innovation at Amazon MGM Studios also calls Jost's humor "insightful and nimble" with a great sense of pop culture.
