Looks like HBO's Lanterns has been shaping up well. Last week, the first official image of Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as Hal Jordan and John Stewart was released to the public. Moreover, it was revealed that the release window for the series will be early 2026. Actress Poorna Jagannathan supposedly confirmed something major regarding the upcoming DC HBO series.
In a recent interview, Jagannathan revealed that turned heads amongst the DC fans as she supposedly teased the involvement of other Green Lantern characters like the Guardians of the Universe and Sinestro Corps. This excited the fans as the previous live-action adaptation of these characters barely scratched the surface.
The upcoming HBO series based on the Green Lantern comics will feature not one but two beloved human Green Lantern characters, Hal Jordan and John Stewart. While Hal is an icon in the Green Lantern mythos, Stewart is a fan-favorite character who especially struck a chord with the millennials through his appearance in the celebrated DCAU.
What did Poorna Jagannathan say about the involvement of Sinestro Corps and Guardians of the Universe?
The actress recently sat down for an interview to promote her comedy series Deli Boys. In that interview, Poorna Jagannathan was asked about the upcoming DC series. Jagannathan, while discussing the script for Lanterns, excitedly gave away the involvement of important factors from the Green Lantern mythos like Guardians of the Universe and Sinestro Corps. She said:
"I couldn't have loved the writing for Green Lantern more. Like Deli Boys, the Green Lantern series is extraordinarily well written and my character is extraordinarily well-built. And also, the way I can describe all the characters. We have all the characters we know and love... the Lanterns, the Guardians, Sinestros, and that world is still intact and everyone is presented as heroes and villains at the same time. And that's what makes the writing so complex, layered and so wonderful."
The Guardians of the Universe are the alien species who established the Green Lantern Corps. From their homeworld of Oa, the Guardians instruct the different Green Lanterns of different races. While some might be surprised by the inclusion of these characters in the HBO series described as grounded, it must be noted that in the comics, they can project holographically. So, they may be seen in that way in the series.
She also referred to the well-known Green Lantern antagonist Sinestro but in the plural. We do know that actor Ulrich Thomsen is playing Thaal Sinestro in the HBO series. In the comics, the villain after losing his Green Lantern ring, Sinestro wears the Yellow Lantern ring, which is powered by fear, as opposed to the Green Lanterns' power of will. He also goes on to form the Sinestro Corps.

The showrunner for Lanterns is none other than Chris Mundy, who is known for his work on Ozark. It will feature Hal Jordan and John Stewart trying to solve a murder. The logline for reads:
"The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland."
