Shark Tank investor Robert Herjavec has recently shared on his Instagram about how he became successful in the industry. Starting with his life, Robert came to Canada with almost nothing and had to work his way up.
He said that being poor is a mindset and can be changed. In this new country, he also came to realize a lot of different things along the way that he shared with his followers.
Robert has been on Shark Tank for a long time now and is one of the celebrated investors on social media. He often uploads motivational videos on his accounts and encourages fans to work for their passions.
In this segment, Robert talked about three points that he had learned along the way of growing up. He shared,
"Well, the first thing I learned is it's not fun being poor. But I also learned poor is a state of mind. I didn't know we were poor until we came to Canada 'cause I grew up in a little village where everybody lived like us."
Shark Tank investor Robert Herjavec shares his journey
Shark Tank's Robert Herjavec has previously revealed that he had come to Canada with just $20 with his family when they immigrated from Yugoslavia. It was when he was little, and he "hated" how they lived. This made him want to work harder for a better standard of living.
However, in this video, he specified that they didn't know they were poor in Yugoslavia because of the small village they lived in. Everyone had the same lifestyle. Viewers can also see pictures of his childhood with his mom and dad in that village attached to the video.
The host in the video asks Shark Tank's Robert,
"Your family, I read, came to Canada with $20. What did you learn from that experience that has helped you as an entrepreneur?"
Robert then explained various lessons that had shaped his mind. Continuing about the same, he said,
"Second thing I learned is you have to make a certain amount of money in North America to take care of the people that you love so you've got to go in the real world and you've got to make a certain amount of money."
Previously, on his reels, Robert had said that he had never been taught about success in his life, but he had learned it. He said he was never the "smartest guy in the tool shed," but whatever he has achieved is through never making the same mistakes twice.
Talking about his childhood, Shark Tank's Robert revealed that at the age of 12, all he thought of was that he did not want to be poor. His purpose came from wanting to improve his living standards, and he had never thought of making "a billion dollars or a million dollars."
He says that everyone has a different perspective, which makes them passionate about working hard. Relating to the same, he said,
"And the last thing I learned is, anybody can do it."
On his Instagram reels, he also shared about how people often go for the materialistic value of things and ignore their purpose. This had happened to him when he compared his one jet to Mark Cuban's three jets.
However, it made him realize that he did not start a business and worked so hard to buy jets. The materialistic assets are a part of the bonus, but that was not his main goal.
Shark Tank releases new episodes weekly on ABC on Fridays at 8:00 pm Eastern Time.
