Playing Gracie Darling: Release news, cast, plot and more about the supernatural thriller show from Paramount+

Playing Gracie Darling is set to hit our screens soon. Paramount+ is partnering with Screen Australia and Screen NSW to co-produce a new original drama series launching internationally.

Playing Gracie Darling is a supernatural thriller with six hours of dramatic storylines. This series is an original idea by Miranda Nation and she also is a writer for the show. Jonathan Brough is behind the direction.

It is a drama about an unknown teenage girl by the name of Gracie Darling who mysteriously disappeared 27 years ago during a séance. The series features a great cast including Morgana O'Reilly as Joni, together with Rudi Dharmalingam, Celia Pacquola, Annie Maynard, and many more.


When is the release date of Playing Gracie Darling?

A new six-hour original murder mystery drama titled Playing Gracie Darling is coming to Paramount+ in 2025. Curio Pictures produces the show, and Sony Pictures Television has confirmed to distribute it worldwide. Paramount Australia will release the show locally and Sony Pictures Television, internationally.


Who is the cast involved in Playing Gracie Darling?

The makers of the show have not revealed the full cast list yet. For now, we know only a handful of names of the actors who will be part of the show. They include:

  • Morgana O’Reilly as Joni
  • Rudi Dharmalingam as Jay
  • Celia Pacquola as Ruth
  • Annie Maynard as Anita
  • Anne Tenney as Moira

What is the plot of Playing Gracie Darling?

The plot of the show revolves around Joni, the protagonist of the show who haunts and worries about the disappearance of her best friend during a séance at the tender age of 14.

Twenty-seven years later, kids in their small town start to play a game called "Playing Gracie Darling." Things take a darker turn when another girl goes missing.

A time jump to a few years. Joni goes to her hometown as a child psychologist to dig up everything that happened to Gracie. Joni teams up with local sergeant Jay to get to the bottom of things. On the other hand, Gracie's sister Ruth goes about trying to come to terms with her missing daughter in a similar fashion.

Meanwhile, Ruth's mom Moira clings to her faith amidst her worst fears.


What makes Playing Gracie Darling special?

The supernatural mystery show comes with a new attitude for the genre, a show that will capture the hearts of many Australian audiences and beyond. As the show follows Curio's talented team and scripts from Miranda Nation and Anya Beyersdorf, it has the potential to top the Paramount+ chart.

With Miriam Nation flawlessly knitting together supernatural, coming-of-age, and crime thriller elements, and with Jo Porter and Rachel Gardner from Curio Pictures on board as executive producers, the show will be undoubtedly an exciting drama to look forward to.

Once the show is released fans can stream the thriller show on Paramount+ while fans residing outside Australia can stream it on Sony Pictures Television
