Ted Lasso fans were met with exciting news last week, as the show got a green signal for its fourth season. According to Deadline, Apple TV+'s beloved comedy-drama prepares for its fourth season by recasting Henry Lasso, Ted Lasso's son. Henry was originally played by Gus Turner.
However, Warner Bros. and Apple TV have not confirmed this update.
Deadline reported that the new season requires Henry to be skilled at soccer, hence, the recasting decision. As of now, the locked-in cast includes, Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca), Brett Goldstein (Roy), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie). The report also states Juno Temple is in negotiations to re-join the cast as Keeley.
A surprising recasting twist in Season 4 of Apple TV's comedy-drama Ted Lasso
Over time, Ted Lasso has become a favorite for many and has been capturing hearts with its wholesome storytelling and lovable characters.
Henry was earlier played by, Gus Turner. He primarily appeared in video calls with his dad while remaining in Kansas with his mother, Michelle. Following his parents’ divorce, Henry visited Ted twice in the UK, and the Season 3 finale saw him joyfully welcoming his dad back home.
Apple TV+ has yet to confirm the identity of the recast character officially, but Deadline suggests Henry Lasso is at the center of the search. Henry will now be shown as a 12-year-old child who is a budding soccer player himself, so to show this gradual growth in his career from a child to a soccer player, it's essential for the actor to be skilled at the sport.
How will this impact the storyline of Ted Lasso?
Season 4 might start in Kansas with Ted settling into life at home. It remains to be seen if Henry will stay in Kansas or go back to the UK to live with his dad. His increased passion for soccer could be a big factor in the direction of the character. Fans might look forward to seeing how Henry's inherited idiosyncrasies and comedic rapport with Ted will develop.
Moreover, fans are excited to learn more about the newly added AFC Richmond women's team, led by Keeley and Rebecca. Though Ted might be home, his presence on the team will always be felt.
Though change is never simple, it also presents the possibility of new storytelling. Ted Lasso has already proven himself to be able to walk the line between humor and heart, and this recasting could be another challenge to that strength.
As the show goes into its fourth season, viewers will be eagerly anticipating how this critical turn of events plays out. The optimism and heart that define Ted Lasso might keep shining through, regardless of who steps on the field.
