Harry Potter fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating the arrival of their favorite franchise now on television. As the casting and pre-production for the Harry Potter television series are underway, several prominent actors such as Paapa Essiedu, Nick Frost, and John Lithgow are being rumored to be cast as the characters in J.K. Rowling's beloved world. Among them, only John Lithgow has been so far confirmed to play the character of Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore.

However, James Bond star Pierce Brosnan recently commented that he has forever wished to portray the character of Dumbledore himself. Pierce Brosnan notably stars in the Guy Ritchie crime drama MobLand, which premieres on March 29. While promoting the Paramount+ show in a recent interview with the Telegraph, the veteran actor expressed his interest in the Harry Potter character.

Here's everything that we know.

Harry Potter: Pierce Brosnan expressed his interest in playing Dumbledore

While speaking in an exclusive interview with The Telegraph, Pierce Brosnan remarked that he has been fond of the character of Dumbledore for long and would like to portray the character on screen if he were given the opportunity to do so:

"I’ve always had my eyes on Dumbledore as my hair has gotten greyer and the maturity of life is now upon my visage and shoulders. It’s a joke with my family, the Dumbledore thing – that I’ll go into my Dumbledore years. I don’t want to go there … particularly right now, but if I was asked [to play the part] I probably would say yes."

It is now a known fact that Brosnan's connection to the character runs deep since his late wife, Cassandra Harris, was the niece of Richard Harris, who played the character of Dumbledore in Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets.

John Lithgow has been cast as Dumbledore in the Harry Potter TV series

Lithgow has been officially confirmed to play the character of Dumbledore in the upcoming Max TV series. According to a report by Collider, the actor is investing his time in catching up with the literature in order to gain a better understanding of his character. He also commented:

"You know, Dumbledore is — he’s kind of the nuclear weapon. He only goes on very, very occasionally. I don’t think it’s gonna be that hard a job, and, we’ll just go back and forth."

He further added:

"Well, it came as a total surprise to me. I just got the phone call up at the Sundance Film Festival for yet another film, and it was not an easy decision because it’s going to define me for the last chapter of my life, I’m afraid. But I’m very excited. Some wonderful people are turning their attention back to Harry Potter. That’s why it’s been such a hard decision. I’ll be about 87 years old at the wrap party, but I’ve said yes.”

Max is eyeing a potential 2025 release for the Harry Potter TV series.
