Rick Riordan, the mastermind behind the book series Percy Jackson & The Olympians, has provided clues to the destiny of the Disney+ show. Though just a single season was shown, with season two remaining on the horizon, the program was already greenlit for its third season. This ensures the saga will advance in The Titan's Curse, book three in the original saga.

Though the greater concern is if Percy Jackson & The Olympians extends past season 3. There are two other primary book entries in the initial book series: The Battle of the Labyrinth and The Last Olympian. As there isn't a firm confirmation just yet, Riordan did provide insights into the reality of seasons 4 and 5 within an AMA question session with readers.

According to Riordan's response on Goodreads, hope is extended that the entire five-book run will be adapted. He detailed that although nothing can be promised, the initial success of the show and sustained viewership will play a large part in determining the future of the show.

From his response, the production company and the platform are both set on a full adaptation, though viewership will be what decides whether or not this is achieved.

Riordan talks about Seasons 4 and 5 of Percy Jackson & The Olympians

In a recent encounter with readers on Goodreads, Rick Riordan responded to questions regarding Percy Jackson & The Olympians going up to seasons 4 and 5. When answering, Riordan was cautious with his words but was positive. According to Riordan,

“No one knows the answer right now. It will depend on continued viewership, but we’re certainly off to a great start.”

He further added that everyone involved with the series is “hoping and assuming” that they will be able to tell the full five-season arc. However, he stressed that it's too early to confirm anything beyond season 3.

Riordan also commented on how long it takes to produce each season. While the production team will try to make future seasons faster, Riordan admitted that making a full season still takes some time. What this means is that there might still be huge gaps between seasons.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: Current status

The Disney+ show was released late in 2023 and gained rapid popularity. Reports say Percy Jackson & The Olympians season 1 was the most viewed show on Disney+ in 2024. This is impressive given that the platform also supports other hit Marvel and Star Wars shows.

Although season 2 has not premiered yet, Disney has already renewed the series for a third season. This renewal indicates strong confidence from the platform in the show's performance and audience reception.

Season 3 will be based on The Titan's Curse, which has not been adapted into a live-action production before. Although The Sea of Monsters, the material for season 2, was already adapted into a movie before, The Titan's Curse will be a new addition to the screen. As long as the high viewership is maintained, there are higher chances that seasons 4 and 5 will be approved.

Rick Riordan has reported that although there is no official word on Percy Jackson & The Olympians going past season 3, there is hope on the team's part. Disney has renewed the show for season 3 already, which will be based on The Titan's Curse. As per Riordan's words on Goodreads, the intention is to cover the entire five-book arc, but it all comes down to sustained viewership.

Season 1 has already performed well, being the most-watched Disney+ series of 2024. With season 2 still to come, it is yet to be seen if that momentum can be sustained. If so, seasons 4 and 5—adaptations of The Battle of the Labyrinth and The Last Olympian—are sure to follow.
