The Sister Wives star Meri Brown, who ended her spiritual marriage to Kody Brown in January 2023 after more than three decades together, is candidly sharing her experiences in the dating pool. When asked about navigating the modern dating scene, she mused:

"I haven't been scared, like really scared, but it's just like people are weird."

Known to millions as one of the original wives on TLC's hit show, Sister Wives, which chronicled the lives of polygamist, Kody Brown, and his four wives, Meri has been embracing her new chapter with refreshingly bold honesty.

Following her move from Flagstaff, Arizona, to Utah, the 53-year-old businesswoman has been dipping her toes into the dating waters, and finding that the temperature isn't quite what she expected.

"I just don't understand why people can't be honest," Meri Brown admits, reflecting on her adventures in modern romance.

Sister Wives’ Meri Brown talks about dating in the digital age

For Meri, the transition from polygamous marriage to single life has been an interesting journey to put it lightly, especially when it comes to finding true love. While she is trying her hand at dating apps, she confesses a preference for meeting people through traditional connections:

"I've met a couple of people through people," she shares.

Though acknowledging the reality of modern dating, she added:

"But when you live in a small town, and then this day and age, it seems to be the thing is the dating sites."

Her recent foray into exclusive dating may have been brief, but Meri maintains a practical outlook. "He just wasn't my person," she says of her short-lived relationship earlier this year. And added:

"We dated exclusively for a few months, and he just wasn't my person."

Now, back to dating non-exclusively, Meri Brown's taking a measured approach:

"Right now, I'm dating, not exclusively. But you date non-exclusively, and then you're like, 'Okay, I can focus on this person. Let's be exclusive.'"

Meri Brown's journey to this point hasn't been without its complications. In 2014, she had to get divorced from Kody to allow him to marry his fourth wife, Robyn Brown, facilitating the adoption of Robyn's children from a previous marriage. The years that followed brought a lot more challenges, including a catfishing incident where Meri was deceived by a woman pretending to be a man online, and Kody's diminishing interest in their relationship.

However, these experiences haven't dampened her spirit. Instead, they have led to valuable personal growth.

"I'm learning about myself. I'm learning about other people," she reflects.

This period of self-discovery has strengthened her intuition:

"I am learning to trust myself and be like, 'Hmm, I'm getting a funny vibe. This person's just not for me.' Even if it's just not a funny vibe, nothing's wrong with a person. It's just not for me," she said.

What’s next for Meri Brown beyond Sister Wives

With her church having officially terminated her marriage to Kody, Meri Brown stands at the threshold of a new chapter. The way she goes about dating and relationships reflects the mindset of a woman who knows her worth, learned it the hard way, unfortunately, and isn't afraid to take her time finding the right match.

A smart way to go about things, this time around, for sure. Whether it is through dating apps or traditional introductions, Meri Brown is navigating the scene with a blend of optimism and pragmatism that suggests her best days lie ahead.

While "people are weird" might sum up her current dating experience, Meri Brown's journey from TLC's Sister Wifes, married to someone who barely even loved her, to an independent woman striking it on her own, showcases a resilience that resonates with anyone navigating the trials and tribulations of the modern dating world, amongst other things of course.

Sister Wives airs on TLC every Sunday at 10 p.m. ET.
