Dan Fogelman and plot twists go hand in hand, and this time it is for his latest American political thriller Paradise. The Hulu series premiered on January 26, 2025, and has since become a favorite among viewers.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the creator of Paradise, Dan Fogelman talked about the twist between Sterling K. Brown's character, Secret Service Agent Xavier Collins, and President Cal Bradford (James Marsden). Fogelman stated that both of them live in a man-made underground city.
In the interview, Fogelman also mentioned that there will be around three seasons for Paradise. According to his plans, the three seasons of the series will delve into different stories. He continued,
"I have a plan for three seasons of the show. Without giving away too much each season of the show is a slightly different show, within the same show with the same characters. The pilot reveals something at the end and then there's twists and turns in the course of the season. "
Fogelman went on to describe how he would approach the storyline in the upcoming seasons, saying,
"Then the seventh episode is kind of a standout, standalone episode of the show. As we go into the second season, we pivot a little bit, but in a way I think is very followable. But yes, there's big moves ahead."
What twist does the premiere episode of Paradise show?
Created by Dan Fogelman, Paradise, which seemed like a political thriller, turned into a post-apocalyptic thriller by the end of the premiere episode. The show initially appeared as a political thriller featuring Secret Service agent Xavier Collins (Sterling K.Brown), whose duty was to protect the US President, Cal Bafford.
In a flashback, we witness that despite certain differences, their relationship stood on mutual respect. The bond grows closer as Xavier saves President Bradford from being shot. The president is seen attending a high-profile meeting about an incoming apocalypse. It is also revealed that the US is secretly building an underground city in Colorado to protect people from the upcoming events. However, things start turning sour between the duo as Xavier learns that Bradford was denied a place for his wife in the bunker, leaving them with the only option of letting their children survive.
In the present-day scenario, Bradford is found assassinated inside his room, making Collins a prime target. However, as the premiere episode nears its end, Fogelman deploys certain scenes (mechanic duck, lamp as sun, and late announcement for dawn) that prove that Xavier is currently in the underground city of Colorado, where things are man-made and artificial.
The This is Us creator Dan Fogelman has left all the viewers in shock with the twists and turns of the premiere episode.
