Paradise is keeping the viewers on the edge of their seats with a thrilling story full of twists and turns. The Hulu series starts as a political thriller with the assassination of the President.
However, it soon takes a sci-fi turn as it is revealed that the whole city has been living in an underground bunker, with the light source being an artificial sun. The fourth episode of the show, 'Agent Billy Pace,' was released on February 4, 2025, and introduces another surprising twist in the story.
The episode delves into Billy’s past, showcasing how he first met and befriended Agent Xavier Collins. While Xavier now suspects Billy might be involved in the assassination, the recent episode reveals his true intentions.
Here is the complete Paradise episode 4 recap.
What do Billy’s flashbacks reveal?
Paradise episode 4 begins with a flashback to Billy Pace’s childhood, where he goes on a traumatic hunting trip with his abusive uncle. When Billy fails to shoot a deer, his uncle scolds him and later forces him to kill their dog as punishment. However, Billy instead turns the gun on his uncle and kills him.
He then ends up in juvenile detention, where he goes through another tough phase as he has to defend himself against his violent fellow inmates. After his release, he is recruited into a mercenary training program, where he proves his survival skills by defeating a seasoned fighter named Bull.
These experiences turn him into a lethal and conflicted operative. As the episode progresses, another flashback reveals a darker truth. Two years before the present events, Billy executed a group of explorers who had ventured to the surface.
One of them revealed that the air is breathable and that life can exist above ground, but Billy follows his seniors' orders and kills them all, unknowingly helping maintain the illusion that the world outside is uninhabitable.
What secret is Sinatra hiding in Paradise?
Samantha "Sinatra" Redmond has turned out to be the most powerful figure in Paradise with the events of episode 4. She is not only pulling the strings behind the city’s operation but also keeping a massive secret.
While the citizens of Paradise believe the world outside is too dangerous to inhabit, the air is breathable, and people can survive up there. Billy’s mission to kill the explorers was not just a random attack, instead, it was a way to keep the truth from coming out.
Sinatra wants people to believe that the bunker is the only safe place left. If they learn they can leave, she would lose control over them. As Billy learns about the lies from the explorer, he confronts Sinatra and tells her to stay away from Xavier and his family. But Sinatra reminds him that he is only alive because he is useful to her, and she can change the course of his life at any time.
What happens to Billy at the end?
During the bunker’s annual carnival, Billy plans to tell Xavier the truth on the subsequent day. He then enjoys a nice time with Billy’s family, before returning to his girlfriend, Jane. While the couple enjoys a drink together, Billy is unaware that Jane has poisoned it.
As Billy struggles to breathe, Jane watches him die and reveals she was working for Sinatra all along. She then stages his death to look like a suicide by leaving pills scattered around the room. Hence, Billy is betrayed by the one person he trusts and ends up losing his life.
