While Malvia’s shocking murder took place in Outlander Season 6, the mystery surrounding her murderer was finally resolved in Season 7 when it was revealed that her murderer was her half-brother Allan who had forced himself on her and also impregnated her.

Malva (Jessica Reynolds) had initially accused Jamie (Sam Heughan) of impregnating her and it was only in season 7 that the real identity of the killer was revealed. While Malva had tried seducing Jamie while taking advantage of Clarie’s illness, she had done so only to frame Jamie for her pregnancy that Allan had caused.

Let us now explore Malva’s murder in Outlander in detail including who killed her and what was the motivation behind the killing.

Who killed Malva in Outlander Season 6?

While the killer’s identity was revealed in Outlander Season 7, Malva’s death took place in Season 6 itself. Her body was discovered in Fraser's garden and that led to the suspicion of her killing falling on either Jamie or Claire (Caitríona Balfe).

Outlander Season 7 saw Tom Christie (Mark Lewis Jones) confessing to murdering Malvia as she apparently showed “witch-like” characteristics that he had seen in his mother. However, Claire is not convinced by this confession as she does not feel certain regarding Tom’s abilities or motivations to kill.

In season 7 episode 2, which takes place a few weeks after Tom’s confession, Claire finds Allan sitting by Malva’s grave and shouting

"She was mine."

As a flashback shows how Allan raped Malva because he felt she was more than a sister to her, Claire realizes that it is Allan who had killed Malva. This naturally disgusts her and as told by Diana Gabaldon, the author of the Outlander book series on which the show is based,

“Well, I imagine she’d feel sick: not only are Malva and her child tragically dead, Tom Christie has just effectively given up his life to protect Claire from the accusation—and now she learns the truth about Malva’s death, which reveals Tom’s sacrifice (and presumed death) to have been the result of Allan’s lies.”

How did Allan kill Malva in Outlander?

While Claire is dealing with her emotions, Allan further reveals that when he found that Malva had slept with Jamie’s nephew Young Ian (John Bell), he was so jealous and angry that he had beaten her. However, she explained that since Allan had gotten her pregnant, she had to sleep with someone so that she could frame that person as the father of her child.

She also planned to marry someone but Allan stopped her from proceeding with that idea and asked her to pin it on Jamie, which was a major plot point of Outlander Season 6. However, Malva could not pull off the plan because she could not bear hurting Claire.

This led to Allan following her to Claire’s house where he tried to change her mind but failed. As Malva said she wanted to come clean about everything, Allan, in a bout of panic and rage slit her throat and killed her.

He left the body in Claire and Jamie’s garden and since Malva had already accused Jamie of impregnating her, it was easy to make Claire a suspect in this murder.

After making this confession, Allan tried to kill himself but Claire prevented him from doing so. However, he is ultimately killed by Young Ian who shoots him on his chest with an arrow.

Outlander can be streamed on Netflix.
