The acclaimed historical drama Outlander wrapped up its seventh season in January 2025. Based on Diana Gabaldon’s novel series, the show follows a World War II nurse, Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), who accidentally travels back in time to the 18th century and falls in love with a Scottish highlander named Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).

The show incorporates history with fiction and the supernatural perfectly, as not everyone in the show can travel back in time. Other than time traveling, the show also mentions some other magical elements, such as Claire’s healing powers.

Although the show has mentioned Claire’s healing powers only a couple of times, in Gabaldon’s books, there are several examples of Claire using her magical powers to heal people.

More on this in our story.

Does Claire have magical powers in Outlander? Details explored

Since Claire is among the few people who can time travel, she already incorporates supernatural powers. However, Claire has another magical power, which is first mentioned in Season 2 by Master Raymond.

In Outlander Season 2, after Claire has a miscarriage, she develops an infection due to a piece of placenta still being in her womb. Master Raymond comes to heal her. When he puts his hand on Claire, he asks her to close her eyes and tell him what she sees. Claire tells him about seeing blue wings. Master Raymond informs her that she has healing powers just like him and calls her Madonna because of her blue aura.

However, we haven’t seen Claire use her healing powers yet but have gotten many hints that the final season of Outlander might give us a glimpse of her magical powers.

In season 7 of Outlander, Nayawenne, the native woman, tells Claire that when all her hair turns white, she will experience the full extent of her power.

Will Claire use her healing powers in Season 8 of Outlander? Speculations explored

In the previous seasons of Outlander, Claire’s healing powers were mentioned. However, as the final season will be based on the ninth book, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, it has several incidents where Claire uses her magic.

For example, she heals a dying infant in the ninth book. She also resurrects Jamie back to life. However, it is also revealed in the books that Claire’s powers come from her empathetic emotions toward people and that she also needs physical touch from her loved ones.

In season 2, while Master Raymond heals her, he asks her to call Jamie’s name, which actually helps in her healing. This signifies how Jamie’s love impacts Claire’s powers. Furthermore, while helping the infant, she has Jamie by her side, and Ian and Roger’s presence helps her in bringing Jamie back to life in the ninth novel.

Other than the ninth book, Outlander Season 8 will also have plotlines from the unreleased final Gabaldon book of the series. Therefore, we might get to see Claire using her powers, but the extent of it will only be revealed when the final season is released.
