A new nature documentary mini-series has arrived with the invigorating, mysterious, and magical world beneath the waves. Narrated by former President Barack Obama, Our Oceans is a captivating journey into the ecosystems of the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Southern, and Arctic Oceans, portrayed as a literal deep dive.

Shot to reveal marine life that barely reaches the human eye, this documentary is brought to you by the makers of Our Great National Parks. Using frontline underwater filmmaking techniques, it sends viewers into the lives of the cuttlefish and the blue whale. It also portrays the fragile balance that sustains marine communities.

As Obama says in the trailer,

“You’ll never be the same once you’ve seen it from below.”

This isn't just a picturesque feast, but a call to know and preserve our most vital and vulnerable planet ecosystems.

Our Oceans is a new nature documentary series coming directly to Netflix on November 20, 2024. It is a production by former US President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, who worked together as the co-executive producers.

The documentary promises an unprecedented look into the largely untouched depths of our beautiful planet's oceans and is going to be a defining moment in nature documentaries. The series covers a 75,000-mile journey through and under all five oceans, as noted in a recent Netflix Tudum piece.

It projects stories of marine life deeply connected with the global ocean current, or "conveyor belt." This thousand-year phenomenon circulates water around the world, thus supporting diverse ecosystems and life in the most unexpected places.

The documentary series is spread over five episodes. There's one for each of the world's oceans that focuses on the lives of unseen marine creatures. According to People Magazine, Our Oceans reveals the adaptability and survival strategies of these creatures amidst changing environmental conditions.

They will see the extraordinary migrations of humpback whales in the Pacific, the throngs of walruses refractory to the rapidly warming Arctic, and even orca whales hunting seals. There's also a "tennis" match between two fish.

The series also stresses the critical role played by the global ocean current, as mentioned above. It is a phenomenon of a thousand years, acting as the life force of Earth, linking the five oceans, and allowing nutrients and energy to flow throughout the marine food web.

Calming yet commanding, former President Barack Obama narrates this underwater tour and from the bits we've seen in the trailer, he's definitely done an incredible job.

As Vice noted, since leaving office, Obama has lent his voice to several projects, most recently sharing the podcast with Bruce Springsteen, Renegades: Born in the USA.

However, his work on Our Oceans will go beyond just narration and will bring to light some of the world's most compelling conservation issues.

The series proves Obama's love for environmental conservation in terms of how he emphasizes on the relationship between ocean health and human activities. It aims to be echoing the central message of the series - that our fate is tied to the health of our oceans.
