There's good news for the fans of One Tree Hill, as Netflix has announced that the revival of the series is now in the stages of early development. 12 years after its end, the coming-of-age show is all set to return for a reboot on Netflix. The following is a quick recap of the show before diving into the much-awaited reboot.

Spanning across 9 seasons, One Tree Hill aired from 2003 to 2012. Furthermore, set in the fictional town of Tree Hill, the series in the initial few seasons revolves around the story of two half-brothers who go head to head for a spot on their school’s basketball team.

The series takes viewers through the journey of the conflict between the two half-brothers and how their bond strengthens as they mature. The award-winning series also focuses on how the two lead characters navigate the complexities of developing relationships with friends, family, and love interests.

Has One Tree Hill been renewed for a reboot?

Fans of One Tree Hill can now expect a return to the town of Tree Hill as Netflix has begun work on the series reboot. According to Variety, Netflix will be bringing One Tree Hill back for a reboot and is already working on the ensemble for the reboot.

A day after the reboot was announced, cast members, Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton, took to their Instagram and posted what many believe is a hint towards them reprising their roles. Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton shared a post featuring their One Tree Hill co-stars Danneel Ackles and Bevin Prince, who played the roles of Rachel Gatina and Bevin Mirskey, respectively.

The post hinted towards confirmation of the news and had the following caption:

“What if you really can go back home? If there’s an opportunity to team with brilliant creatives and build a space where all our friends can show off their talents? Own our history? Reclaim our turf? Honour our fans? Sign us up."

It continued,

"There’s only one Tree Hill, after all. And you — the #OTHfam — have shown us that it’s not just an idea. It really is the place where “everything’s better and everything’s safe.”

Which characters will be returning from the original show?

The series that aired its first episode almost 21 years ago initially consisted of many permanent and recurring cast members. The original ensemble featured Chad Murray, James Lafferty, Bethany Joy Lenz, Paul Johansson, Antwon Tanner, Sophia Bush, Lee Noris, and Hilarie Burton.

According to Deadline, fans can expect Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton to make a return to the series in their roles as Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer. The BFF duo, along with Daneel Ackles, will also be the executive producers of the Netflix reboot.

There still seem to be talks with the other original cast members regarding their return for the reboot. However, fans will not be seeing the return of Chad Murray in his role as Lucas Scott. The actor whose relationship with Sophia Bush resulted in a divorce a year after their marriage will not be reprising his role.

What can fans expect from the reboot?

Deadline has revealed that One Tree Hill enthusiasts can expect a different take on the original series as it is expected to take place two decades later. The series will introduce characters Brooke and Peyton as parents to teenagers who will address challenges along the same lines as the original series.

One Tree Hill is all set to begin work on its revival on Netflix.
