One of Star Wars' most hated villains is back for Andor Season 2, and you might want to hate him further

When Orson Krennic exclaims ‘Oh It’s Beautiful’ as Jedha city is destroyed with the Death Star in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, you know that you have witnessed one of coldest villains from the Star Wars universe. His cunning and ruthless ways are a true representation of the evils of the Galactic Empire.

Portrayed by Ben Mendelsohn, Director Orson Krennic is part of the Imperial Military Intelligence and is instrumental in creating the Empire’s most dreaded weapon, the Death Star. In Rogue One, we see Krennic striving to rise up the Imperial ranks. In Andor Season 2 we will be able to witness more of his vicious personality as he faces off with the Rebel Alliance and other imperial authorities including Dedra Meero (played by Denise Gough).

Who is Orson Krennic in Star Wars Universe?

Orson Krennic is the Director of Advanced Weapons Research for the Imperial Military. He is responsible for overseeing the design and construction of the mighty Death Star, a moon-sized space station capable of destroying a whole planet. With his intelligence and manipulative personality, Krennic is quintessential evil genius.

In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Krennic would use intimidation to ensure that scientist Galen Erso (played by Mads Mikkelsen) is brought back to finish the Death Star. His Death troopers kill Erso’s wife and hunt for his daughter, Jyn (played by Felicity Jones). She manages to escape and is later rescued by rebel Saw Gerrera (played by Forest Whitaker).

Krennic is eager to climb the ladder within the Imperial Empire. He would disregard other Imperial officers in favor of his ambitions. Despite reservations from Grand Moff Tarkin, Krennic is successful with the creation of Death Star.

As Jedha city is one of the strongholds of the rebels, Krennic decides to do a test fire at the city. He successfully destroys the whole city, mercilessly killing all the people in it. However Grand Moff Tarkin ends up taking the control of the weapon. A furious Krennic meets with Darth Vader to get an audience with Emperor Palpatine but fails to do so.

The rebel forces who now are aware of the devastating weapon, arrive at planet Scarif to get the Death Star plans. Despite Krennic’s efforts, the Death Star plans are compromised when Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna) and Jyn manage to infiltrate the Imperial facility.

What to expect from Orson Krennic in Andor 2?

In Season Two of Andor, Krennic will be overseeing the construction of the Death Star. We will get a more in-depth look into the character. We may also get to witness the extent of his cruelty as he is creating the planet killer.

Ben Mendelsohn shared that in Andor Season 2, we will see more of the character. He spoke to GamesRadar+ about the upcoming series,

"I think we're dealing with some different bits of him. This is sort of him in his development to what he becomes and I think to that degree, he's a little fruitier… We see an early part in Rogue One of him and Galen Erso as quite young men, sort of young in the empire, lots of hopes, lots of dreams. But, you know, he's getting ready to rock and roll here. It's a joy to be back."

Andor Season 2 will premiere on April 22, 2025, on Disney+ with three episodes.
