What happened with Colonel Aureliano in One Hundred Years of Solitude?
Anreliano became a military leader and attacked Macondo simply because it was ruled by conservatives while other liberals were opening up to the peace treaty.
Towards the end of the season, Aureliano grew resentful and wished to reclaim Macondo for good. Ursula fears him while he plans a second attack on Macondo. After years of battle, he manages to finally win the war somehow surviving all through the time. He returned the land stolen from the locals, executed Raquel, and restored the laws set by the conservatives. According to Ursula, her second son is going down the path of tyranny which she disapproves of. She witnesses how earlier during his birth she feared him being a monster with a pigtail. She realised how he was still a monster but without a pigtail.
Eventually, down the years Aureliano agreed to sign a peace treaty, tired of the war. As he grows older, his disillusionment intensifies. He chooses solitude over everything, crafting gold jewelery in his workshop. It's a futile work, a monotonous activity, that reflects his despair and the cyclical nature of the Buendía family's fate. His story ends here in One Hundred Years of Solitude.
What happened during the time of Aureliano's birth in One Hundred Years of Solitude?
Ursula and Jose Arcadio were cousins as a result everybody disapproved of their relationship. They still manage to marry each other and successfully build a comparatively liberal town Macondo. But Ursula feared while she was giving birth to Aureliano that he might be deformed or born a monster with a pigtail. Aureliano was born with an open eye, looking at the world with unsurprising curiosity.
Amaranta Ursula was Aureliano's aunt with whom he fell in love with, despite all the disapproval. Just like his parents who get married therefore the series deals with repeated consequences of generational sins and trauma. The series showcases a lot of incestuous relationships throughout its season and depicts how history repeats itself.
Through Colonel Aureliano, the series tells us that the war is something people get used to and how ideology is the main cause of human suffering like how the ideological differences between the conservatives and the liberals started the civil war.
