Netflix continues to engage fans with intriguing stories in several TV series and is set to release another series titled One Hundred Years of Solitude, adapted from Gabriel García Márquez's popular 1967 novel of the same name. The story centers on the Buendía family and its involvement in a fictional town called Macondo.
One Hundred Years of Solitude will let viewers experience love, loss, tragedies, and incredible happiness, all surrounding the Buendía family for almost a hundred years. The upcoming series will explore magical realism and notable historical events during the rise and ultimate decline of the Buendías.

The series is filmed in Colombia and directed by talented filmmakers Laura Mora and Alex García López. While talking about their show, the two shed light on their experiences of directing One Hundred Years of Solitude. Mora said (via Netflix):
"As a filmmaker, and as a Colombian, it has been an honor and a huge challenge to work on a project as complex and that carries as much responsibility as One Hundred Years of Solitude..."
He added:
"We've done it with love and respect for the novel, with the support of an exceptional technical and human team."

As previously mentioned, the cast of One Hundred Years of Solitude is packed with well-known artists from the entertainment world. So without further ado, here's the list of actors set to appear in One Hundred Years of Solitude:
1) Claudio Cataño plays Colonel Aureliano Buendía
Colombian actor Claudio Cataño has been into acting since his teenage years and has been a part of several acting projects. Cataño's interest goes beyond acting as he's also a skilled director, known for his works in Virginia Casta and Moria.
The actor will now be seen as the key figure in the Netflix series. While talking about the series, Cataño said:
"I think the scripts and the direction combine both aspects of magic and humanity, of exuberance and realism. From the performing side of it, it was an arduous and exquisite pleasure."
Being the second son of José Arcadio Buendía and Úrsula Iguarán, Colonel Aureliano Buendía is described as one of the most creative and independent members of the family. Aureliano Buendía also participated as a rebel leader in a civil war, highlighting his rebellious nature as Latin Americans fought for identity.
2) Marco González plays José Arcadio Buendía
Actor Marco González has joined One Hundred Years of Solitude as José Arcadio Buendía, the patriarch of the Buendía family. Similar to many powerful leaders of great families, José Arcadio Buendía is known for his strength. Fans will explore his personality more in the upcoming series.
3) Leonardo Soto plays José Arcadio (son)
Since the family used similar names, Leonardo Soto's José Arcadio is the eldest son of José Arcadio Buendía. Soto's character first ran away for a girl but later returned to his family. Arcadio fell for the adopted daughter of the Buendía family and later tied the knot with her.
4) Susana Morales plays Úrsula Iguarán
While José Arcadio Buendía is the powerful and intelligent patriarch of the Buendía family, Susana Morales' Úrsula Iguarán is his resilient wife. She aims at keeping the family members at peace and avoiding chaos.
5) Ella Becerra plays Petronila
Actress Ella Becerra will be seen as Aureliano Buendía's wife Petronila or Petra. Like most of the marriages in patriarchal families, Petra and Aureliano Buendía's relationship also faced challenges.
The two had great responsibilities ultimately leading to emotional distance and complexity. Though Petra is a supporting character, her presence highlights the struggles of being a part of the Buendías.
6) Carlos Suaréz plays Aureliano Iguarán
Another supporting yet important member of the Buendía family is Aureliano Iguarán, portrayed by Money Heist actor Carlos Suaréz. Aureliano Iguarán is one of the grandsons of José Arcadio Buendía and Úrsula Iguarán, representing the long-standing family's lineage.
7) Moreno Borja plays Melquíades
While not a family member, Melquíades is the family patriarch's guide. This role has been held by Moreno Borja, whom fans might have seen in Carmen & Lola, a well-received romance/drama film released in 2018.
José Arcadio Buendía hired Melquíades as a guide in knowledge but often ended up getting into his influence while making decisions.
When will One Hundred Years of Solitude come out on Netflix?
One Hundred Years of Solitude has been divided into two parts with eight episodes each. The first season is scheduled to hit Netflix on December 11, 2024. While the exact release date of the second installment is yet to be announced, fans can expect it in early 2025.
