On Call seems to be the perfect watch for police procedural drama fans. The Prime Video series has been produced by Wolf Entertainment, which has already established itself as a master in network procedurals with franchises like Chicago, FBI, and Law & Order.

The new series is set in Long Beach, California, where patrolling officers Traci Harmon and Alex Diaz face new challenges with every emergency call. While Traci is an experienced officer who is going through an existential crisis, Alex is a rookie with a positive outlook toward his job.

On Call plot

The show is centered around the Long Beach Police Department in California and follows training officer Traci Harmon, who is known for her tough and protective personality. While guiding her juniors, she deals with uncertainty about her own future in the department.

Traci teams up with Alex Diaz, a newly recruited officer, to train him while patrolling the streets of Long Beach. Alex is an ambitious officer with an optimistic approach to things; however, he struggles with the unpredictable nature of his job.

As the two answer emergency calls, they encounter various challenging situations that test their physical, mental, and emotional strength. Meanwhile, they also have to grapple with the recent loss of a fellow police officer.

The series features hand-held, dash cam, and bodycam footage which gives it an authentic and unique feel, setting it apart from other dramas. The official synopsis of the show reads:

“[On call follows] the hard-charging but protective veteran officer Traci Harmon, who struggles to find her place in the department while training the next generation of officers; and Alex Diaz, an ambitious rookie who grapples with holding onto his optimistic outlook as he realizes the challenges he’ll face in today’s climate.”

The show stars Troian Bellisario as Officer Traci Harmon and Brandon Larracuente as Officer Alex Diaz. Troian is famous for her role as Spencer Hastings in the mystery teen drama Pretty Little Liars and Miranda Delano in the miniseries Plan B.

Brandon has previously starred as Jeff Atkins in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why and as Dr. Daniel Perez in ABC’s The Good Doctor. ER star Eriq LaSalle plays Sergeant Lasman in the show, while Full House actress Lori Loughlin portrays Lieutenant Bishop.
