The Challenge 40 aired its first part of the finale on January 1, 2025. The segment featured finalists and the show host, T.J. Lavin, who explained the tasks and shared essential information.

The reality show's finale episode consisted of four checkpoints, one of which was the "overnight portion," which didn't go well with the participants. While the first part of The Challenge 40 finale initiated the fourth checkpoint, the results were not revealed.

Fans will learn about the results in the upcoming finale, set to air on January 7, 2025. Seeing how the finale part 1 ended with a major cliffhanger, fans of the competition show shared their thoughts on X.

One of the fans commented on the social media platform:

"This overnight portion of #TheChallenge40 finale is once again just proof that overnight challenges are usually stupid and not entertaining at all to watch as a viewer. I'd rather Challenge finalists get rest and come back in top condition to kill it the next day."

Another fan wrote:

"The #Challenge has had some amazing and brutal challenges in their 40 seasons. This is one of the worst ones of all time. It's all about swimming and being friends. Terrible for such an iconic season. Love you @tjlavin but your final sucks this year. #thechallenge40."

A user mentioned on X:

"This is, bar none, the worst Final of all time. #TheChallenge40 producers took off, had a beautiful trip and then decided to crash the plane into the side of a mountain instead of landing."

A netizen reacted to the "checkpoints" in The Challenge 40 finale:

"I really hate these timed checkpoint finals, it kills any excitement for me. I've seriously been more interested in some of the dailies earlier in the season #TheChallenge40."

Another user shared about the overnight checkpoints:

"Tori's face when TJ says they have reached the overnight check point after she just tread water for 3 hours, ran 5 miles in sand, swam another 10 and swallowed 2.5 liters of ocean water….. #TheChallenge40."

The Challenge 40 fans compared the show's finale with the last year's finale:

"Complete agree . Last year's final was better."

A fan referred to the show's finale as "the worst final ever":

"Season 40 officially has won the worst final ever… like WTF is this? And you keep telling me this is “Americas 5th sport”? We can't show any drama but we'll show singing and people counting coins?! #TheChallenge40."

Another fan slammed various activities from the finale segment:

"Wtf is this finale? Lmao all swimming and now counting coins and singing The challenge has gone soft #thechallenge40 #thechallenge."

Another X user wrote about the finale:

"I will never understand why sleep deprivation is implemented into finals in The Challenge. There's no entertainment factor in it for viewers and it adds in a pointless wrench to the competition. Please let's just move past these overnight challenges! #TheChallenge40."

One more fan reacted to the overnight challenge:

"Oh this overnight Challenge is FOUL!!!! #TheChallenge40."

The Challenge 40: The first part of the finale episode consisted of four checkpoints

The Challenge 40 host, T.J. Lavin, explained the tasks consisting of four checkpoints to the finalists. He also shared vital information about collecting tokens and how the winner would be considered.

The checkpoints were:

  1. First checkpoint - Sandblast,
  2. Second checkpoint - Swim to "Ghost Ship,"
  3. Third checkpoint - A Thousand Steps,
  4. Fourth checkpoint - Overnight portion.

Regarding the fourth checkpoint, The Challenge 40 host mentioned that it would be carried out overnight. For that, competitors were given huge bags filled with coins. As part of the task, they were supposed to count the coins for 30 minutes and then return to the ship.

After returning, the participants were supposed to sing "Show Me the Way to Go Home" for 30 minutes. The challengers were supposed to continue it until they counted all their coins.

As The Challenge 40's first part finale ended, the results of the overnight portion task were not declared. Fans will have to wait until the second part of the finale is aired.

MTV will release the highly-anticipated The Challenge 40 finale on January 7, 2025.
