Shark Tank season 5 episode 1 introduced viewers to Rolodoc founders, Richard Amini and Albert Amini, who were seeking $50,000 for 20% of their idea. During their pitch, the founders explained that their social media network was created for the medical community to join and make their profiles for patients to connect with them.

Towards the end of their pitch, sharks including Mark Cuban were unsure whether the business would work as the plan lacked clarity. The founders didn't mention how they would make money off of the business idea and how they would convince other doctors to join Rolodoc. Cuban said:

"There's no chance of you making money on this. Is it in a secure environment you can do targetted advertising? Ah, not going to happen."

The Shark Tank investor expressed frustration regarding the business idea pitched by Rolodoc founders. He questioned the clarity of their concept, and the execution as the Amini brothers were unable to answer his questions. According to Richard and Albert, Rolodoc was supposed to be a social media platform for doctors where patients can contact them.

Apart from Mark Cuban, Kevin O'Leary was also confused about how the business would make money. Meanwhile, Lori shared her concerns regarding the verification of each doctor's profile stating how "dangerous" it can be if someone makes a fake doctor profile. Barbara on the other hand asked how the founders would convince other doctors to make a profile on the network.

Then Cuban stated:

"Let us take a step. How am I going to convince you, the physician to put your profile up there and detail the services that you offer."

The Shark Tank investor continued looking for answers but the Rolodoc founders emphasized their connections in the medical field. Cuban said:

"There's a hundred places to put profiles. What are you going to do to convince doctors? How are you going to tell them? I'm pulling teeth, I should be a dentist. Are you personally going to quit your practice, you're going to stop doing surgery and you're going to make the call?"

The Shark Tank investor stated a hypothetical scenario emphasizing that the business plan wouldn't work if the founders reached out to doctors to sign up on their social media platform. He continued stating that the business model was one-on-one communication and there was nothing new being added to something people are already doing via email.

Mark mentioned he understood the founders' vision of building a Facebook plus Twitter app for doctors but the pitch failed to explain the basic revenue model. He said:

"I don't think they will be able to get anybody, it can't be dangerous if you can't get any doctors. Let's go through the logical progression, my doctor gets an email oh it's from Rol of Doc, never heard of him, delete. He keeps on saying social media, social media, this is all one-to-one communication."

Frustrated by his attempts to give the founders a chance to clarify how their idea would work, Cuban concluded that their presentation was "horrible" after stating he was "out." The Rolodoc founders didn't secure a deal towards the end of the episode.

The new episodes of Shark Tank air exclusively on ABC on Fridays at 8/7c.
