The most recent episode of The Amazing Race had high stakes and even more pressure, but nobody anticipated the physical toll it would have on best friends Nick and Mike. During a strenuous challenge in the Colombian heat, both competitors started to feel sick, which prompted them to stop and get medical help right away.
Nick lost his bearings while working on the task, and Mike looked obviously hot and was having trouble cooling down and breathing. Producers who were worried dispatched medical professionals to quickly evaluate the two's health. The severity of the conditions was later clarified by Nick in a confession. Even though they were committed to persevering, their bodies had finally given up.
Fortunately, the pair was cleared to continue after consuming fluids and resting for a short while. Though Nick and Mike finished the leg with remarkable tenacity despite falling behind, they got eliminated from the competition. Their health emergency was a potent reminder of how taxing The Amazing Race can be, not only on the mind and heart but also on the body.
Nick and Mike required medical assistance in episode 7 of The Amazing Race Season 37
Fan-favorite duo Nick and Mike suffered greatly in The Amazing Race Season 37 Episode 7, which turned out to be one of the most physically taxing yet. The best friends started to suffer during a demanding job in the Colombian heat, which alarmed both producers and other racers. When both competitors required rapid medical attention to recuperate from heat exhaustion, what had begun as a routine leg quickly became a medical emergency.
Nick and Mike talked candidly about their terrifying experience after the episode aired, and the two getting eliminated. Our body seemed to simply shut down. In an interview, Mike disclosed,
"We had to actually stop [the challenge] and get medical attention for a few minutes because we were about to have a heat stroke.”
Nick further talked about how the contestants had to carry huge pile of wood and how several factors led to them losing the challenge.
He revealed, “We had just finished carrying 400 pounds of wood and running back and forth three times. So we were really exhausted...And then — like Mike said — the sun did not help and the hay was extremely itchy as well. So it was just like a perfect storm of unfortunate events and our energy level really went very low.”
Both acknowledged that, despite their willpower, the task had a significant negative impact on their bodies, making them stop and reevaluate their capabilities. Even after the medical staff gave the all-clear to proceed, the physical fatigue persisted and had an impact on their performance. As a result, the two were asked to pack their bags and were sent home.
Fans of The Amazing Race can follow along the journey of other contestants every Thursday on CBS.
