The Masked Singer Season 12 Finale aired on December 18, 2024 on Fox. The last episode of the reality show unveiled the identities of the two finalists. The winner, Buffalos, was revealed to be a boyband group, Boyz II Men, and the runner-up, The Wasp costume, revealed singer Mario.
In his December 18, 2024 interview with Entertainment Weekly, The Wasp revealed many exciting details. He discussed his unique costumes, how he showcased his impressive dance moves, and more.
Talking about how he felt about The Wasp costume, Mario shared:
"I feel like when they called me about the show, I actually think it was the next day we had another call, and they showed me the costume, and I was like, "yo, this is fire." It fits me, the character of the Wasp, the design of it, the colors, the fact that the wings weren't all the way perfect if you look at it."
He continued:
"It kind of had some broken wings a little bit, just like you could tell he'd been through some things, you feel me? So I love that I could pick that character and relate to it and take it on the stage and bring these songs to life in different ways."
The Masked Singer Season 12: The Wasp, aka Mario, opens up after the show's finale
After a "very, very, very close" voting, as The Masked Singer Season 12 host Nick Cannon revealed, Buffalos won the show while The Wasp was runner-up. Later on, when their identities were revealed, fans witnessed Grammy-nominated singer Mario.
In his recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, The Wasp shared how he knew about his opponent, Buffalos. Mario said that "by the time" the finale was happening, he "definitely knew" who he was competing against.
"Boyz II Men, I've been hearing these voices since I was a kid, studying their vocals. And they're part of my R&B Mount Rushmore, period. There's no question if I was to name a group it would be Boyz II Men."
The Masked Singer Season 12 runner-up shared that for him, Boyz II Men would be " Number 1." It was because of various factors, including their song choices, vocals and more.
Sharing more about his costume and how he got into the character, Mario revealed:
"As angelic as the Wasp is and him being able to fly and have wings and all that, he still was very grounded and had been through real things in life. So it was just merging those characters. I enjoyed it."
Before The Wasp's identity was unveiled on The Masked Singer Season 12 Finale, only two panelists, Rita Ora and Robin Thicke, correctly guessed his identity.
