Taylor Sheridan's production company has hinted that Yellowstone will not be closing its series with 5th season, and a new season is on the horizon. The show stars, Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, and Cole Hauser, were initially expected to join the sequel series, which would star Matthew McConaughey.

The original idea turned into The Madison, a new series featuring Michelle Pfeiffer. Meanwhile, Reilly and Hauser might stay with Yellowstone for a sixth season if they agree on new contracts.

The show's second part for season 5 is set for release on November 10, 2024, and there are ongoing discussions about a sixth season. Reilly will play Bethany "Beth" Dutton, and Hauser will play Rip Wheeler, an employee and "fixer" of the Dutton Ranch.

Yellowstone has reversed its cancellation for season 6

Puck from TVLine was the first to report that Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are becoming the new leads of the show. They're taking over from Kevin Costner, who left the show after Yellowstone Season 5A. The two are finalizing deals to stay on the show, which is returning soon for Yellowstone Season 5B.

Yellowstone wasn't meant to end with its fifth season. However, after the creator, Taylor Sheridan, and the star, Kevin Costner, had some issues, Costner officially said goodbye to the show in June, primarily due to his work on Horizon: An American Saga.

Costner explained that initially, the plans were different from the show’s production end, stating,

“ Somewhere along the line they wanted to change things, They wanted to do 5A and 5B… affected ‘Horizon.’ I was going to do my movie ‘Horizon’ and leave that show, do my movie, then do B. A show I was only doing once a year I was now doing twice."

An August 2024 publication by Fox News highlighted that Costner was offered $24 million to star in seasons five, six, and seven of "Yellowstone." However, the schedule didn't work out.

Paramount said that the rest of season 5 would be the finale. They also announced a new series that would continue the story of the Duttons with a new "epic tale". The latest sequel series was first called 2024, but it changed into a different project called The Madison.

According to the official description, The Madison will be a story about how people deal with sadness and connect. The Madison is set in a family in Montana's Madison River valley.
