Colin Jost jokingly called out Saturday Night Live for having featured Russell Brand and Chris Brown in the same episode from years back. The Saturday Night Live host, in the 'Weekend Update' segment that he co-hosts with longtime SNL cast member Michael Che joked about SNL's controversial decision to pair the two people together. After showing audiences a clip from the old episode where Russell Brand was the guest host and Chris Brown was the musical guest, Jost quipped:

"Wow. We really know how to pair 'em up."

This comment came shortly after comedian Russell Brand was officially changed by the Metropolitan Police in the UK on April 4 with multiple offenses, including r*pe, incident assault, and s**ual assault, involving four women.

Russell Brand and Chris Brown appeared together on Saturday Night Live 11 years back. During the 'Weekend Update' segment of SNL, where hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che, give a comedic spin to the headlines of the past week, Colin Jost commented on the irony of their past appearance. In the video posted on Sunday, he began by saying:

"Actor Russell Brand was charged in England with s*xual assault."

Jost then showed the video from 2011, before adding:

"Which somehow makes this video even creepier."

In the video, guest host, Russell Brand is seen introducing Chris Brown, by saying:

"Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Brown."

Chris Brown was arrested in 2009 for the assault of his then-girlfriend, Rihanna. He later pleaded guilty, thus avoiding a prison sentence. He was sentenced to five years probation and 180 days of court-ordered community service. The singer also has faced a string of other legal troubles, including a 2020 allegation brought by an unnamed woman who accused him of assaulting her at a party hosted by Sean Diddy.

On the other hand, Russell Brand's legal troubles have only just begun, with the incidents having taken place between 1999 and 2005. Shortly after the news of the charges was made public, Russell released a video on YouTube, denying the charges. He said:

"I’ve always told you guys when I was young and single, before I had my wife and family. I was a fool, man. I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord. I was a dr*g addict, a s*x addict, and an imbecile. But what I never was, was a r*pist.”

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall actor further added:

"I’ve never engaged in non-consensual activity. I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes. I wanna thank all of you for your continuing support."

Russell Brand, the former SNL guest host, is set to appear in court next month on May 2, 2025.
