Apple TV's Severance is filled with an array of sinister characters that make up the premise of the unsettling Lumon Industries. One such character on the show is Eustice Huang, who has been introduced in the show's second season.

Popularly known as Miss Huang, she is a young woman who is newly appointed as the new deputy manager of the severed floor as a part of her fellowship. Her character is nuanced on the show, and mysterious, like every other counterpart present on site. And the mystery surrounding Huang is something that is shared by actress Sarah Bock, who opened up on the character's deeper roots.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, the actress talked about the character as she confessed to not being very aware herself of Miss Huang's backstory. She added on how her not knowing much about the character added to its enigma as she said,

I don’t really know the entire story of why she’s even there or her family history or anything about that. Most of it was just stuff I was kind of coming up with in my own imagination... I felt that having that mystery as an actor was sometimes helpful in amplifying the mystery surrounding the character.

The actress further adds that she does think Miss Huang is, in certain terms, older than the innies and is more aware of the surroundings as she says,

"She is in some effect older than they are, and possesses more knowledge about certain things.”

As more episodes unravel more of Lumon Industries, we will certainly get a clearer peek into Miss Huang's life and her purpose in the building.

More about Sarah Bock aka Miss Huang on Severance

The eighteen-year-old actress is still in college majoring in theater and psychology at Northwestern in Evanston, Illinois. She has previously had smaller acting projects as she explored piano, tennis and voice acting in her younger years after finally settling on acting. Speaking to Teen Vogue, the actress opened up on her first big project as Huang on Severance, and what she thought of Miss Huang.

Talking about her character she says,

"I think it's interesting because the show really infantilizes all of the innies. Having a child especially in a position of power makes them feel like they have no power even further. Showing that a child might have more life experience than a full-grown adult just goes to hurt [the innies] even more.”

It goes without saying that she was the perfect choice for the unsettling character of Miss Huang. Ben Stiller, who has directed Severance, talked about Bock's casting and told Vanity Fair,

“Sarah had this calmness and felt very centered. She’s not afraid to hold a look or a moment…. Her eyes are so expressive, you can read a lot into them. I think she also trusts that an audience will come to her, as opposed to reaching out to them. It’s a thing that takes a lot of actors many years to develop.”

Severance is available to stream on Apple TV.
