Fans can now woefully rejoice because production for Wednesday season 2 has officially begun as announced by Netflix’s Tudum! This comes after nearly two years since the show ended on a thrilling cliffhanger leaving room for speculations about season 2.
The first installment of the dark teen drama primarily focused on Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams making her debut in Nevermore, discovering the concept of friendship, romance, and of course a haunting mystery - with monsters!
Speaking to Tudum exclusively, the show's co-creators Miles Millar and Al Gough, shared their vision for the upcoming season of Wednesday. They claimed that the new season is set to see some “acting legends” alongside Ortega in season 2. Reflecting on the cast, they said,
"When we survey the talent we've assembled we could not be more thrilled! Mission accomplished."
The co-creators expressed their delight for filming the next installment of the show, claiming they were beyond happy to continue Wednesday Addams' "torturous journey." Additionally, Tim Burton will be returning to direct the hit series along with several fresh faces.
When will Wednesday season 2 release?
According to What’s on Netflix, season 2 of Wednesday is reportedly slated for release on September 3, 2025, which falls on a Wednesday. According to the publication, production for the new installment began back in early 2023.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, there was a delay in filming. Nevertheless, production is back and is set to wrap up filming later this year, in November.
What is the plot for Wednesday season 2?
There’s much to be answered in the upcoming season of Wednesday which will potentially unravel events from season 1. Cliffhangers such as Tyler’s fate (as a Hyde), Nevermore’s new principal, and Wednesday’s mysterious stalker will likely be explored.
Speaking to Variety in June 2023, Ortega dished about season 2 of Wednesday, claiming they’d 'lean into the horror more.' Ortega confirmed that they’re going to be getting 'bolder and dark' in comparison to season 1.
Furthermore, although she doesn’t confirm which romantic storyline - there will be no romance. Ortega stated,
"We're ditching any romantic love interest, which is really great!"
Additionally, the show’s co-creators teased another avenue the plot would explore: Wednesday and Enid Sinclair’s (Emma Myers) friendship. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the showrunners said,
"Now that Wednesday's dipped her toe into the friendship pool, what's that gonna look like?"

Is there a trailer for Wednesday season 2?
While it isn't an official trailer, Netflix disclosed a 'Cast Reveal' trailer featuring Thing and Ortega, confirming their return to the series. Furthermore, it saw Thing nonchalantly riding a wheelbarrow of sorts, distributing dialogue sheets to the cast members.
It continues until he stops right in front of Wednesday's door, where Ortega picks up the sheet and ominously states, "More torture awaits..." Viewers also got the name of the first episode for season 2 of Wednesday, "Here We Woe Again."
Is there a spin-off series of Wednesday?
According to a Bloomberg report from December 2023, there is reportedly a spin-off of Wednesday in the works. The show is set to revolve around Addams' eccentric Uncle Fester. Fred Armisen, who plays Fester, is allegedly set to reprise his role on the show.
