The Love Island Australia Season 6 Finale episode aired recently on December 16, 2024, on 9Now. Hosted by Sophie Monk, the reality show featured finalists including Mia - Niko, Sophie - Monk, Kaylah - Eric, and Em - Mercedes.

As the reality show ended, the winning couple, Em and Mercedes, was announced. However, they revealed their split after the couple was revealed as the winning duo.

In his December 17, 2024, interview with 9Entertainment, Love Island Australia Season 6 winner Mercedes revealed:

"Coming back from the Villa, we were on a high. After you come back there's a grace period where you get back to real life, and I kind of figured both of us were going to need that and incorporate that... so I said, 'I think we need a break. Then the break turned into being broken up."

Love Island Australia Season 6: Em and Mercedes parted ways after winning the show

The winning duo Mercedes from Texas and Em from Sydney revealed their split as the reality show ended. The couple spent time together in the Spanish villa while participating in the show.

Chiming in on their breakup, Mercedes shared how the couple was on a "high." He added that their "break" somehow turned into being "broken up," so they split.

After being crowned the winners, the duo returned to their daily lives, where Em felt "super disoriented." Sharing more about where things might have affected their relationship, Love Island Australia 2024 winner Em revealed:

"I think I got home on Tuesday and on Saturday, we agreed to take space. But I feel like the way Mercedes communicated that was a little lost in translation for me."

Em added that, as Mercedes mentioned, he initially intended to have some "space" between the two.

However, his final result was supposed to be that they would both come back together, which, somehow, didn't happen.

"His intention, he said later on, with taking space was that we would come back together. But I got that message and I was like, 'We're done'," shared Em.

Mercedes shared that Em felt it was a "we're done" break. Hence, she took it that way. The winner referred to it as things that might have been "lost in translation" with Mercedes.

Fans might not know that, but Mercedes has won FBoy Island's two seasons. His Love Island Australia Season 6 win marked his third dating show victory.
