The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras episode 3, "A Fatal Era," aired on August 28, 2024. It featured Era 3 players Averey Tressler and Tony Raines, who had disagreement over the elimination process.
Tony faced Darrel Taylor, while Averey had Jodi Weatherton as a competitor. As a result, Darrell and Averey emerged as the winners, ultimately sending Tony and Jodi home.
During her recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, referring to Tony’s disagreement, The Challenge 40 star Averey revealed how she and Tony had to compete in the elimination challenge despite being safe because they couldn’t choose from competitors.
"Derek and Aviv are willing to work with me. It just didn't make sense, and so that's why I already knew we had a contention. He (Tony) couldn't see my point of view, and he wasn't giving me reasons why I should understand his point of view. I was giving him fact after fact after fact, and he wasn't giving me anything, and that was the most frustrating part," shared Averey Tressler.
The Challenge 40: What happened between Averey Tressler and Tony Raines?
Episode 3 featured Averey and Tony from Era 3 as safe players. Additionally, they had the special power to select Era 2 captains Aviv Melmed and Derek Chavez or Era 4 captains Kyland Young and Kaycee Clark to compete against the losing participants, Era 1 captains Jodi Weatherton and Darrell Taylor.
Since Averey is friends with Derek in real life, she did not want to send him to the elimination challenge.
"I knew Tony and I were not going to agree. They don't show this, but Tony and I had an argument in the chamber when I asked him what his reasonings were. "Why do you want to vote Derek? Why not save him?" And he really didn't give me anything to go on," shared Averey.
She also shared how she loved Derek and Aviv, who, she added, were "willing" to work with her. Averey said during the interview that if the roles were reversed and Tony had one of his best friends "up there," she would side with him "all day."
As a result of their disagreement, they decided to compete in the elimination task "One Step at a Time," which resulted in Tony's elimination after losing against Darrell. Meanwhile, Averey, competing against Jodi, won and sent Jodi home along with Tony.
