The Writers Guild of America made the announcement on January 21, 2025, confirming that Vince Gilligan will be awarded the Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for his immense contribution to television writing.

Gilligan released an official statement following the announcement, highlighting how it is a bittersweet moment for him as the award comes at a time when Southern California is struggling with wildfires:

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Cribbing from a better writer is about all I can think to do right now, preoccupied as we all are by what has happened to beautiful Southern California. But this award is a true honor, and I appreciate it deeply.”

The ceremony is going to be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles on February 15, 2025. The Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award is named after the legendary playwright and screenwriter who wrote films like Marty and Network. Before Gilligan, the honor has been bestowed upon names like Larry David, Marta Kauffman & David Crane, Merrill Markoe, and Susan Harris.
