The new Daredevil: Born Again casting update confirms that the upcoming gritty superhero series is set in the MCU. That's because two episodes of the upcoming Daredevil show will see Tony Dalton's return to the MCU as Jack Duquesne/The Swordsman. The character had previously made his MCU debut with the Hawkeye show that streamed between November 24, 2021, and December 22, 2021.

Dalton has appeared in countless Spanish movies and shows before he made his American debut with his breakout role in Better Call Saul, that of Lalo Salamanca. After appearing as Lalo, Dalton was cast as Jack Duquesne, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Hawkeye. In the comics, Jack Duquesne in the comics is both Clint Barton's antagonist and his mentor.

Daredevil: Born Again's Jack Duquesne/The Swordsman explained:

Jack is introduced in the first episode of Hawkeye as Kate Bishop's mother Eleanor Bishop's fiancé. Given the character's nature in established Marvel Comics lore, fans were theorizing that his live-action counterpart was hiding a secret past with Jeremy Renner's Barton. However, Jack's character reveal ended up being something else entirely.

It needs to be said that he doesn't share any past with Renner's Clint Barton as he does in the comics. Instead, he is connected with Hailee Steinfeld's new Hawkeye Kate Bishop because he was engaged to Kate's mother Eleanor, who was played by The Conjuring's Vera Farmiga. Moreover, he ended up being a red herring because Jack gave the impression that he murdered his uncle Armand III.

It didn't help that Jack stole Clint's Ronin sword. However, the Hawkeye finale pulled the rug under the fans by revealing that Dalton's Jack is not an antagonist. Instead, the real culprit was revealed to be Eleanor Bishop, who had been working with Wilson Fisk (Kingpin) all along. Dalton not playing an antagonist was a huge surprise for the fans back when Hawkeye came out.

But given that Fisk had a role in the Hawkeye finale, it makes sense that Jack will be making an appearance in Daredevil: Born Again. The two appearances in Born Again will be the first time fans will be seeing him since December 2021. Maybe, Daredevil: Born Again will reveal something new about the character to align him closer to the comic book counterpart. We will know that only after seeing him.

"In Marvel Television’s 'Daredevil: Born Again', Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course."

What is Jack Duquesne's role in Daredevil: Born Again? Find out after March 4, 2025.
