Sheriff Country has found its main lead. The highly anticipated show is a spin-off of CBS’s Fire Country. The new drama will be a police procedural focusing on Mickey Fox, played by Morena Baccarin, a sheriff who investigates crimes in the town of Edgewater.

Matt Lauria has now been finalized to headline the series song with Baccarin. The actor is not new to procedurals, as he previously played the lead in CBS’ CSI: Vegas from 2021 to 2024.

Lauria will play Mickey’s colleague, Boone, whose working methods are starkly different from his partner. The series has already been introduced through a back-door pilot episode in Fire Country Season 2.

Matt Lauria’s character, Boone, is Mickey Fox’s deputy. He has been described as a competent and intelligent officer from Oakland. Though he has to team up with Mickey on cases, there is constant tension between the two due to their polar opposite personalities and ways of working.

Lauria previously played an investigator in CSI: Vegas, starring as CSI Level III Joshua "Josh" Folsom across all three seasons of the crime drama. His performance was well appreciated, and he ended up becoming one of the fan favorites.

Sheriff Country revolves around Mickey, who was introduced in Fire Country Season 2 Episode 6, Alert the Sheriff. She is the stepsister of Cal Fire Division Chief Sharon Leone from the original series. Mickey is tasked with patrolling the streets of Edgewater to investigate crimes.

Meanwhile, she has some personal issues to sort out with her father and her daughter. Apart from CSI: Vegas, Lauria has been seen in shows like Outer Range, Little Birds, Tell Me A Story, Kingdom, Friday Night Lights, and The Chicago Code. He has also starred in the films 80 for Brady, Miss Bala, Shaft, and To Leslie.

Along with Lauria and Baccarin, a few other Sheriff Country cast members have also been confirmed. These include Christopher Gorham as Mickey’s ex-husband, Michele Weaver as a Sheriff's deputy, and W. Earl Brown as Mickey's father, Wes Fox.

With the creation of Sheriff Country, CBS is eyeing to turn Fire Country into a franchise like One Chicago, NCIS, and the FBIs. Another spin-off in the franchise is already reported to be in development, with Jared Padalecki attached as the lead.

Meanwhile, Fire Country continues to grab eyeballs with its thrilling storyline. The show recently finished airing its third season, which ended on a cliffhanger with the fates of several characters hanging in the balance.

Sheriff Country will premiere on CBS in the 2025-26 schedule.
