Catherine O’Hara is back on television playing a main role in The Studio. The revered actress stars as Patty Leigh in the satirical comedy series, who gets fired from her position as the studio head.

Before appearing in the Apple TV+ series, Catherine O’Hara became a household name by starring in CBC Television’s Schitt's Creek. She played the matriarch Moira Rose, who became a fan-favorite with her flamboyant style and iconic accent.

Another thing that Moira became famous for was her wigs, as the former film actress in the show appeared with a new hairdo every episode. In an interview with Variety on March 27, 2025, O’Hara reflected on her time in Schitt’s Creek, revealing how at the end of the show, she was offered to take home a few things from the sets:

“The Levys [Eugene and Dan] and everybody were very generous, and I didn’t take as much as they offered. They offered me lots of wigs, but I don’t have the tools to keep them in good shape. But I think I took a pink one and my wig from my soap opera character.”

In the interview, Catherine O’Hara also talked about how she built Moira Rose’s vocabulary in Schitt’s Creek. She revealed series creators and her co-stars Eugene and Dan Levy took her creative input in creating the character:

“They were like, ‘What do you wanna do?’ [And I’d say], ‘I would like to have an insanely arcane vocabulary and use different words every day. And I’d like to wear a different wig depending on my mood. How would that work?’”

Moira was mostly seen in black and white attire, and O’Hara disclosed she got inspiration for the style from fashion designer Daphne Guinness. Talking about how she did not want to play a quintessential rich woman, she said:

“I didn’t want to look like a typical rich lady; I wanted to look avant-garde. I am an artist. I want everyone to know how important I am and my work is.”

Schitt’s Creek went on for six seasons between 2015 to 2020 and earned O’Hara several accolades including Emmy and Golden Globe trophies. Now five years after the show’s conclusion, the actress has landed another leading role on television with The Studio.

In the new series, her character Patty Leigh is the head of the Continental Studios, who has held the position for four decades. However, she is fired in the very first episode after a string of box office failures and is replaced by Matt Remick.

The Studio also stars Seth Rogen as Matt Remick, Ike Barinholtz as Sal Seperstein, Kathryn Hahn as Maya, Chase Sui Wonders as Quinn Hackett, Bryan Cranston as Griffin Mill, Keyla Monterroso Mejia as Petra, and David Krumholtz as Mitch Weitz.

New episodes of The Studio are released on Apple TV+ on Wednesdays.
