As Michael Urie prepares for the Shrinking Season 3, he wants fans to know that the show will keep delivering. At the 2025 Critics' Choice Awards, where his portrayal of Brian in the show won him the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, Urie couldn't contain his enthusiasm when talking about the upcoming episodes.
In an interview with Deadline, while walking the red carpet, he said:
“I’ve seen a few scripts for Season 3, and they are very good, very funny. They know how to write for us so, so well now.”
What can viewers look forward to? You can bet on the show's trademark humor and clever writing, of course, but the whole affair is meaningful, too, as filming is set to take place in Altadena, California, a place that has been in the news due to the recent wildfires.
Urie went on to say:
“We’re all really happy to be putting something back into that community again and revitalizing what’s been lost there.”
With a new season bound to happen, Shrinking fans will hope the series sticks to what the show serves best: Grief, therapy, and the bonds that hold us together.
What to expect from Shrinking Season 3?
Urie’s excitement for Season 3 of Shrinking implies that the creators, Bill Lawrence, Jason Segel, and Brett Goldstein, have interesting ideas for the future. The show is about a therapist named Jimmy Laird, played by Segel, who deals with loss by pushing the limits of traditional therapy with his clients.
Urie's character, Brian, is Jimmy's best buddy and he is the cherry on top for fans — always bringing laughs and gravity to the story. This season might focus on Brian's personal life after the last one focused on him becoming a dad.
In his Critics' Choice speech, Urie gushed about Segel, calling him “an incredible leader,” and had some playful praise for Harrison Ford, joking that he is an “up-and-comer” even though we all know he is a Hollywood legend. The show has a solid group of actors including Christa Miller, Luke Tennie, and Lukita Maxwell, so we can expect more conversations and scenes like the ones we have come to love.
Shrinking Season 3 will be shot in fire-ravaged Altadena
Beyond the storyline, Shrinking Season 3 brings us back to Altadena, a community in Los Angeles County that faced the brunt of recent wildfires. These unfortunate events claimed at least 25 lives and caused widespread destruction. Urie, along with his fellow actors, feels a strong urge to assist in the area's revival.
Speaking to Deadline, Urie expressed his feelings:
“It’s such a beautiful neighborhood, such a beautiful part of Los Angeles, and we want to help make that beautiful again.”
Christa Miller, who not only acts in the show but also oversees its music, underscored this commitment in a video message:
“After the devastating fires that hit Los Angeles, it feels more important than ever to support all the communities that have been affected.”
By filming in the heart of Pasadena and Altadena, the Shrinking team hopes to offer more than just entertainment. They aim to extend a helping hand, offering economic and emotional support to this resilient community to rebuild.
Viewers can tune into Apple TV+ to catch the first two seasons of Shrinking.
