When it released for the first time on FOX back in 2005, Prison Break was quite a sensation. More than two decades later, streaming platform Hulu is preparing to release a Prison Break reboot that would be set in the same universe as the original show but won't feature characters Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows.
As per a report by Variety magazine, the Prison Break reboot's pilot episode has brought actors Lukas Gage, Emily Browning and Drake Rodger on board to play regular characters.
There isn't an official confirmation about a probable release window for the Prison Break reboot and the exact plot details are also being kept under tight wraps. Here's everything that we know about the upcoming reboot.
What's the latest buzz about the Prison Break reboot?
If Nielsen ratings are to be believed, the original Prison Break ran supreme in terms of viewership ratings throughout its four season run. A subsequent made-for-television film was then released and its sole aim was to bring the characters closure. The upcoming reboot show, however, has been brought into existence by Elgin James, formerly known as the co-creator of Mayans M.C. As of now, this much is known that Hulu has ordered a pilot episode to be made by the showrunners.
The FOX show narrated a high-stakes drama in which Scofield vows to prove the innocence of his framed and incarcerated brother Lincoln Burrows who has been condemned with a death penalty.
Being hell-bent on proving his brother's innocence and to rescue him from the clutches of death, Scofield sets in motion an elaborate prison-break scheme that is replete with danger and turmoil at every turn.
Although the plot details for the upcoming reboot pilot are not yet known, it can be anticipated that the casting of relatively young actors can infuse the narrative with a breath of fresh air.
It should also be noted the the reboot show has a long journey ahead of itself, with the approval of the pilot being required before it can finally reach the screens.
What are the characters on the reboot show?
According to a report by Variety, Emily Browning has been cast to play the character of Cassidy Collins, who happens to be a former soldier in the armed forces turned Corrections Officer. The narrative eventually has her working at one of the worst prisons in the country.
On the other hand, Drake Rodger will play the role of convicted felon Tommy, who has been incarcerated in the same prison ten years ago. Lastly, Lukas Gage will appear as Jackson, a rising politician who is seen trying to make the most of his first Congressional campaign.
