AMC has given a major update on The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2. The hit horror drama continues the story of Maggie Greene and Negan from the original The Walking Dead as the two are forced to team up to survive in a post-apocalyptic New York City.

The show premiered in June 2023 and was loved by the fans. AMC has now released the first scene from season 2 and has announced its premiere date as May 4, 2025. Apart from the network, the show will also be available to stream on AMC+.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 follows up on the events of the previous installment’s finale, where Maggie traded Negan to the Burazi, a group of hostile survivors. She will now be heading back to New York City to save him.

AMC unveiled the first scene from The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 on February 26, 2025. The video shows a destroyed New York City, where a zombie walks alone on a road. A pickup truck then arrives with two Burazi members, who attack the zombie and take him to a church along with other corpses.

The undead bodies undergo a process where they are immersed in a chemical, which turns into a green liquid. The liquid is able to power the city, as the streets start to light up. The process seems to be a major breakthrough for the Burazi. Meanwhile, Maggie and Negan are nowhere to be seen in the clip.

In the upcoming season, the two are on opposite sides as Maggie has betrayed Negan and given him to the Burazi. However, she seems to be feeling guilty as she is returning on a mission to protect him. Unlike the first installment, which featured only six episodes, season 2 will have eight episodes.

The official synopsis for the new season reads:

"In Season 2, in the growing war for control of Manhattan, Maggie and Negan find themselves trapped on opposite sides. As their paths intertwine, they come to see that the way out for both is more complicated and harrowing than they ever imagined."

Created by Eli Jorne, the show stars Lauren Cohan as Maggie Greene and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan. They are joined by Željko Ivanek as The Croat, Gaius Charles as Perlie Armstrong, Logan Kim as Hershel Rhee, and Mahina Napoleon as Ginny.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 will debut on AMC and AMC+ on May 4, 2025. Meanwhile, season 1 is available to stream on AMC+.
