The Sleepwalkers fame Paula Hernandez to direct upcoming series about the life of Eva Peron

The Sleepwalkers fame Paula Hernandez is set to direct the upcoming documentary based on Eva Peron or Evita’s life titled, Duarte, per Variety. Peron was Argentinean President, Juan Domingo’s second wife, and a pioneer of women's rights.

The Sleepwalkers alum Hernandez is an eminent writer known for her work in Las Siamesas which was nominated for the Best Ibero-American Film at the 2022 Goya Awards.

Furthermore, this won’t be unchartered territory for Hernandez since she has previously with concepts such as matriarchy, women’s rights, and feminism. Moreover, she is going to be collaborating with Buenos Aires bigwig production company, Kapow for Duarte.

Hernandez will capture the early life of Eva Duarte - her maiden name before marrying former Argentinean President Juan Peron. Furthermore, the docuseries will encapsulate her journey to become the legend she’s known as today.

Per the publication, Duarte is one of the many cinematographic projects featured in the 2024 "Co-Production and Financing Forum," which will occur between October 1 and October 2, 2024.

Joining the helmer of The Sleepwalkers are Kapow’s co-creators, Agustin Sacanell and Lucas Rainelli. Similarly, Kapow’s Head of Scripted Development, Diego Ventura is also set to co-produce the documentary. Co-writing with Hernandez is Cannes Camera d’Or’s Best First Feature title holder, Leonel D’Agostino.


When will Eva Peron's documentary come out?

Eva Peron’s documentary Duarte hasn’t yet been given an official release date. Production for the same is underway and is en route to wrap up in 2025. As confirmed by the aforementioned publication, the docuseries will have 5 episodes - each 60 minutes long. Each episode will cover a fragment of Eva's life from her childhood, up until her youth, and her marriage to Juan Peron.


What can you expect from the Eva Peron documentary?

Speaking to the publication about Duarte, co-producer of the show Ventura teased the importance of creating this movie and emphasized its primary themes. He remarked,

“Feminism, parity of rights, and patriarchy seem to be the buzzwords that exponentially replicate like thunder.”

He firmly believes these themes would create a profound impact mainly because it is in a way the need of the hour. About Eva Peron’s documentary, Ventura stated,

“It’s interesting to go back in time and give some thought to the pursuit of rights for women over the course of time personified in the figure of Eva Duarte.”

Furthermore, Ventura clarified that Duarte won’t merely scratch the surface with these causes. Rather, it would also unravel the life of a woman who stuck to her roots and remained her raw authentic self. Additionally, it will highlight her journey to a place of influence and raise awareness about the ethos of her beliefs.
