Several prominent 20th TV Animation long-time series, including The Simpsons and Family Guy, have been renewed for 4 more seasons at Fox. In an unexpected move, Fox has also confirmed the return of American Dad! to the network. It is important to note that this show is returning after an 11-year break to the Fox network.
This announcement ensures that these shows are all carried through the broadcast season of 2028-29. The 4 season term coincides with Fox's deal with Disney streamer Hulu, a $1.5B extension back in November that runs until November. It appears this is the deal that cleared the path for the animated comedies to be picked up for additional seasons.
Here's everything we know about the renewal.
The Simpsons among multi-year renewal at Fox

It is unprecedented for 4 huge animated comedies to be picked up for multi-year renewals at a network. The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob's Burgers as well and American Dad! have all been picked up for 4 year renewals under a "meganimation deal". president of Fox Television Network, Michael Thorn, referred to this deal in a statement
"This new deal celebrates the eternal popularity of these iconic comedies, as well as the enduring, prolific relationship we continue to enjoy with our friends at 20th Television Animation and the brilliant creators – that goes double for Seth this time around — and incredible voices behind these contemporary classics,"
The renewal deal means that The Simpsons will have a record-breaking 40 seasons by 2029, whereas Family Guy will go up to season 29, Bob's Burgers to season 19, and American Dad! to season 23. This historic deal is a first for any network, proving consistency and marking Fox Television Network as the undefeated leader when it comes to network broadcasting. Rob Wade, CEO of Fox Entertainment, went on to say that
"The longevity of this agreement reaffirms our commitment to the successful partnership we’ve built with the incredible team at Disney. This collaboration has and will continue to generate meaningful long-term value and strategically build audiences from Fox to Hulu to fans worldwide."
The 4 shows have reportedly been picked up for 15 episodes per season, a number lower than the usual 22-episode long seasons. But, broadcast networks lately, including Fox, have been considering shorter seasons, that are also considered full season by broadcast measures, over the longer ones. Additionally, Family Guy, Bob's Burgers, and The Simpsons have already been premiering for less than 22 episodes per season for the last few seasons. Head of 20th Animation Studios, Marci Proietto, commented on the renewal deal saying
"This historic four-season order from our longtime partners at Fox is truly monumental for these iconic animated series. We are so proud that these legendary shows will continue for hundreds of more episodes, allowing new and longstanding fans to watch, rewatch and experience more of ‘The Simpsons,’ ‘Family Guy,’ ‘American Dad’ and ‘Bob’s Burgers’ for years to come.
Renewals for multi-years are common, but a four-year pickup is still pretty rare, but if there's a show that deserves it, it's the legendary show, The Simpsons.
