Since 1997, Jack Reacher has been known to the world as the 6'5", 250 pounds, highly skilled fighter with an analytical mind. He took an early retirement from the U.S. Military as a Military Police, became a drifter, travelling across the U.S. The character was often seen getting involed in extremely dangerous situations, leading him to solve crimes and dispense justice the Reacher way.

Now, for the first time, we get to see what went into the creation of our beloved character, as Lee Child just announced a spin-off novel called Reacher: The Stories Behind The Stories. The novel is set to release in September, where he is going to give the readers a glimpse into his mind at the time of writing each of the books. Along with the anecdotes, the book is also teased to have a brand new Reacher short story, that the readers are going to go crazy over.

Jack Reacher Series by Lee Child

The long running thriller novel series began in the year 1997, with Lee Child releasing the first book of the series called Killing Floor, and the rest is history. Reacher, the retired Military Police turned hobo, has won our hearts ever since and still keeps on doing it with a new novel releasing every year. The guy with no home to his name, and no phone, travels with just a toothbrush and his passport, across the U.S., and always seems to find trouble, or as he puts it, "trouble finds me."

The fast paced action and crime thriller novels are stand alone and mostly independent, but sometimes they connect events and loved characters like Neagley, and bring them back into the fold.

The new spin-off story will be out this September, which will be followed by the 30th novel of the series- Exit Strategy, that's slated to hit the shelves in November.

Reacher: The Stories Behind The Stories

The spin-off is teased to have a previously unpublished Reacher short story, that is going to be the first entirely written by Lee Child in over 5 years.

In his social media post, Child talked about how this book is going to contain anecdotes from each of his novels and will give context from his personal life and the world around him, at the time the novel was written.

He also gave a glimpse of the kind of history that the book is going to feature, while speaking on BBC Breakfast recently, where he said that the idea for the character came to him from a casual joke by his wife during their shopping trip at Asda supermarket in South Lakes.

"I went with my wife shopping. I'd just lost my job, and we were very nervous about what we were going to do. Every time I go in a supermarket, there's a little old lady that says, 'Oh, you're a nice tall gentleman, will you reach me that can?' So my wife made a joke and said, 'You know, if the writing gig doesn't work, you could be a Reacher in a supermarket.' And I thought — great name! Lightbulb moment."
