Netflix has recently released the first official teaser for another true crime show, The Monster of Florence, and this time, viewers will learn harrowing details of serial killing cases in and around Florence, Italy from 1968 to 1985. The incidents, classified under s*x-related murders, have been covered by creator, Stefano Sollima, and the upcoming Netflix show will explore the still-unsolved crimes of the infamous Il Mostro di Firenze aka The Monster.
Per Variety, The Monster Of Florence will be a limited four-episode series and will have a global premiere during the fall of 2025. Showrunner, Sollima, reportedly described the disturbing cases in a statement to Variety, saying:
"The Monster of Florence’ is not only an unsolved judicial case, but a mystery that marks our relationship with pain, fear and silence. The murdered couples, the horrors perpetrated on young women, never fully understood, are a wound that has remained open for too long. The story of a shadow, that has never disappeared."
Netflix drops first teaser for The Monster Of Florence
Creator, Stefano Sollima, has worked alongside writer, Leonardo Fasoli, cinematographer, Paolo Carnera, and producers, Lorenzo Mieli, and Gina Gardini for the upcoming true crime series. Being one of the longest-running criminal investigation cases in the history of Italy, The Monster Of Florence has garnered quite some social media attention late especially after the first look was revealed.
The case involves eight double murders in and around Florence, Italy where the victims would always be couples stationed in desolate locations looking for privacy in their intimate moments. Despite several suspects and multiple convictions, the case has been running cold for years, still standing unsolved.
However, the only common thread connecting all the killings was the use of a 22-caliber, Beretta handgun. Stefano Sollima will be bringing stars Lillina Bottone, Luigi Camillo, and Giacomo Fadda in some of the key roles that have not been specified yet.
The official synopsis of The Monster Of Florence, per IMDB, reads:
"An Italian true crime series about Florence Monster, probably the most well-known and enigmatic serial killer in recent Italian history."
Stefano Sollima is an Italian filmmaker who has previously done notable work in projects like Gomorrah, a crime drama series adaptation that ran from 2014 to 2021, and Prime Video's crime show, ZeroZeroZero (2020). He has also directed Taylor Sheridan's 2018 action crime thriller, Sicario: Day Of The Soldado. As a director who is known for his crime drama streak, Netflix's upcoming rendition leaves high hopes for the audience.
