HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 finally has a release date: April 13, 2025. Ever since the finale aired on March 12, 2023, we have been waiting for some news on the second season of the HBO adaptation of the popular Naughty Dog games. However, it should be noted that, unlike the first season, this season is shorter. The first season is comprised of nine episodes, and season 2 is two episodes shorter.
This HBO post-apocalyptic drama is set in a world ravaged by a zombie plague in 2003. Two decades after the outbreak, a shady man named Joel Miller is tasked with smuggling Ellie, a 14-year-old with a secret, to the rebel group Fireflies in season 1. The Last of Us, Season 2, takes place five years after the Season 1 finale, in which Joel saved Ellie's life but may have doomed humanity by killing the Fireflies and the doctors. The synopsis for this season reads:
"Season 2 of The Last of Us picks up five years after the events of Season 1. Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind."
