"The height of human endeavor": Manu Bennett reveals the reason behind joining "The Summit" as the Host

CBS's latest reality competition show, The Summit, aired its debut episode on September 29, 2024, at 9 p.m. ET. Manu Bennett hosts the reality TV competition show, which features 16 players on their unique journey to conquer The Summit. The show is set in the Southern Alps, New Zealand.

In his recent interview with Parade, the host, Manu Bennett, shared various exciting things, including insights from the CBS show. The New Zealand native answered many questions, including his decision to join the show, his role, interactions with the participants, and more.

While opening up about his views and "personal pursuits," Manu Bennett shared,

"When you get asked to do a show called The Summit, you know, intrinsically, you're doing something that's about human endeavor and the height of human endeavor, the success against adversity and rising up against your own fears and negativities and all that sort of stuff, and just trying to reach this pinnacle."

Parade.com's recent interview, published on September 30, 2024, featured CBS show The Summit host Manu Bennett. During the interview, The Hobbit star revealed some vital information, including his decision to join the show as the "host."

Some fans might already know Bennett from his various "superhuman" roles in The Shannara Chronicles, Arrow, and more. When Manu Bennett faced the question regarding taking up the role of host, he revealed,

"Well, first of all, I mean, one of my personal pursuits in life is to get to know the world better and get to know humanity better, and to understand our ways of thinking. I'm very aware of the world situation right now. I think everybody's looking for the some kind of conscious involvement, some kind of solution to the dislocation of society and humanity."

When asked about the participants, he revealed that they are a "diverse group" of people belonging to different "nationalities" and "economic" situations.

As the show is based in Manu's home country, New Zealand, he referred to it as being set in "his country" and got to "welcome" the participants.

"The idea of who they think they are, all of a sudden, just dispels in this very quiet moment. And I noticed that straight away when I said, "Your challenge is to reach the summit," and I turned around and looked at them, I think one girl's eye kind of twitched and she went, "The what?!" "

Manu Bennett also revealed how some participants came with the mindset of enlisting on a "reality show." They didn't know about the show and how they would have to climb the mountain.

In the latter part of the interview, he also explained that moving forward on the show, participants will have to compete against each other to win.


From October 9, 2024, fans can stream upcoming episodes of The Summit on CBS and Paramount+ on Wednesdays.
